Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing Stay

Corapolis

We truly enjoyed our stay (3 nights). The arrival started off wonderfully, even while waiting in the lounge (with AC, drinks, fresh towels, wifi) for the seaplane. The ride itself to Kommando was beautiful - truly stunning. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by multiple staff members including the general manager. And of course the delicious coconut ice cream. We were shown around the island and could immediately have something to eat.Our stay was beautiful. We went snorkeling daily and the reefs had lots of living corals, fish. We saw a few stingrays, sharks, and turtles - which were really beautiful. Snorkel sets could be rented. (If possible, may be cheaper to at least bring a mask/snorkel.) There were a few activities throughout the week (yoga, visit to local island, cooking course, etc.), which were a nice (mostly complementary) offering from Kommando. Otherwise, the facilities (infinity pool, gym, library, ping-pong table, kayak) provided lots of activities. We always had something to do and enjoyed the beautiful nature of the island. The island itself can be walked lengthwise in about 10 minutes. There are beautiful orchids all over and the no-shoes policy, which was comfortable on the beautiful soft white sand. Our room was gorgeous and we barely wanted to leave. All details were thought of (flip-flops for hot dock on sunny days, umbrella for “liquid sunshine” days, bathrobes, small cookies every night, beautiful towel arrangements with roses). We only left the room because the island and snorkeling was too good. The food was also very good. As vegetarians/vegans, there were always a few choices (including delicious curry daily). When we told the chef, he went out of his way to prepare vegetarian options at every meal. For example, on the burger day he had prepared veggie burgers for us and told us as soon as we arrived to the restaurant. Great customer service! There was a beautiful selection of fruits and a tasty dessert selection. Fresh juices in the morning as well. The staff overall was the icing on the cake - very friendly, professional, and customer focused.Would definitely recommend Kommando for couples, as it is truly a relaxing paradise with romance and activity - whatever you want. Cant wait to return and wear the “Kommando Returner” shirt, that many guests had!

Beautiful Island but could be improved

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Stayed here for 2 weeks in August for our Honeymoon and we had a great time. Island is beautiful, staff are amazing, food is really good and drinks are great! Ill split the main areas down and go into more detail: Island in general: Absolutely stunning, white beaches, turquoise water, amazing reef which is very accessible and full of life, although it isnt very colorful due to bleaching the fish life is amazing. Sand paths run through the middle of the island and are very well maintained by the sweeper women, beach is looked after by a very nice old man who always stops to say hello. The beach around the sunset bar unfortunately is slightly eroded so sandbags have been used to strengthen it but these are quite visible. Rest of the beach around the island is lovely white soft sand. Pool is lovely and very quiet, the poolside waiter is great and works very hard! Wave breakers around the island are pretty damaged and are currently being repaired, it doesnt really cause an issue but it can make the water visibility a bit worse in areas around the work. View of the local island is quite obvious and the call to prayer is easily heard around 1pm every day, it isnt ideal but nothing Komandoo can do. Personally i wouldnt of picked the island if i realised how close the islands were, but it doesnt bother everyone. Food: Food was great, the island runs on a 14 day rotation (Monday oriental, Thursday bbq and Saturday Maldivian night is repeated each week, although the dishes change). There is always a great selection of food which is always very tasty and varied, live cooking stations tend to be a similar thing each day (pasta or grilled fish). Breakfast never changes so we became a bit bored towards the end of the 2 weeks but there wasnt much else they could offer, full English, fruits, cereals and curries were all provided. Lunch and dinner were always great, lots of fresh salads, fresh fish and meat and always a curry (usually vegetarian). Sushi on a monday was a particular highlight, the tuna sashimi was some of the best we've tried! Not having a sweet tooth we didnt try many desserts but the ones we did were usually very tasty (think cakes and mousses). We dined in Aqua on 2 occasions and found the food to be a bit hit and miss, Steak Tatare starter was great as were the coconut prawns main but the aqua platter was very small and quite disappointing for the price, lobster was cold when we got it (we were the only table in so didnt want to complain as they had only opened for us!). The slow cooked beef ribs were mediocre too, good taste but not the fall off the bone texture i was expecting. All in all though we enjoyed our visits as the setting is lovely and the waiters really nice, the chef comes for a chat too after the meal which is a nice touch. Bars/Drinks: The 2 bars on the island are very well looked after and the waiters very attentive, cocktails are very nice but do tend to vary a bit between waiters. The lager (Carlsberg/Tiger) is always cold and not too bad, wine on the AI however is not the best, sparkling is very sweet, as is the white and Rose, never tried the Red. The entertainment on the island is very low key, to the point of boredom some times, the most energetic night is the Maldivian night with the staff singing and dancing which is great and very entertaining to watch (expect to be asked to dance!!). Other than that there is a movie night once per week and live music twice per week. the bar is usually dead by 10pm and very quiet. I heard there used to a disco/glow party night once per week but the regulars didnt like it so it was stopped? We were quite disappointed to hear this, the island has quite a few younger guests who im sure would of enjoyed something a bit more lively. There was a repeaters cocktail party when we were there which we thought was a bit of a shun to the new guests, wheres the first timers cocktail party? Staff: As everyone has said they are amazing and cant do enough, our waiter on our first night sorted us out Sushi for the next evening simply because we said we enjoyed it. The chef prepared it specially for us which we loved! Rooms: We stayed in a water villa (EGR09), it was lovely, well equipped and had amazing unspoiled views over the Indian Ocean. Well stocked mini bar (sparking, white, red, and rose wine for AI guests and lots of beer and pop, replaced daily). In hindsight we would of preferred to stay in a beach villa as the balcony was too hot to sunbathe on due to no breeze, we also would of liked to have the beach right outside our villa. Room keeping was always really good and made great bed decorations, one thing to note is our room was not getting cleaned to 4/5pm some days, we asked reception to bring this forward which they did no problem. Overall: One bad point which did leave a sour taste in our mouth is the poisoning of crows on the island, i found 2 by the bar on our 2nd last day and later on another 2. We were told no they hadnt been poisoned but 'fighting' with the bats. Another review has confirmed out thoughts and although the crows were annoying we find it disgraceful that these birds were poisoned for the comfort of other guests. All in all though its a great island and we were very well looked after, watered and fed Komandoo could improve in certain areas! We will be back to the Maldives but will try another island.
