Exhilarating experiences in the Indian Ocean

We love talking holidays and we're here to help. If you'd like our advice on how to create an amazing Maldives holiday, just give our Destination Specialists a call.

Looking for an adventure on your Maldives holiday? There’s plenty of opportunity to go diving and see stunning corals and wonderful wildlife beneath the surface. Or why not try kayaking, water skiing or windsurfing?

In the Maldives, if you're not on the beach, you're in the warm, clear, turquoise waters. You'll find watersports at every resort, from kayaking and catamarans to windsurfing and water skiing and even some with their own mini submarine. Fishing trips go out in search of groupers, snappers and barracuda, ending with a tasty barbecue with a selection of  the day's freshest catch.

Situated on the south-eastern section of the Lankanfinolhu reef off the Kaashidhoo island, Manta Point is one of the best places in the Maldives to see manta rays during the south-west monsoon season. This is a great section of coral reef that both novice and experienced divers can enjoy, and at the right time of year - usually between May and October there are a large number of mantas here feeding on the plankton. They also get regularly cleaned by the wrasses that also frequent the area, which is a unique experience for all concerned - except, perhaps, the fish.

You’ll never be far from a reef to dive or snorkel, whichever island you pick. Underwater, pristine coral gardens are home to turtles, rays and brightly coloured reef fish and it’s the perfect place to learn to dive with a PADI scuba certification course, as all resorts have dive centres, with courses for amateurs and PADI certified divers alike. More experienced divers can investigate underwater caves, pinnacles and canyons at the likes of the Vaavu and South Ari atolls, while snorkelling can still introduce you to many of the 700 marine species that live among the coral walls. Take a look at our diving page or call one of our destination specialists for more information on diving in the Maldives.

"The Maldives is a great place to snorkel along side one of the biggest fish in the sea - whale sharks. I'd recommend staying in the South Ari Atoll, opportunity to spot them are year round. Enjoy a snorkelling trip or diving experience with a marine biologist to understand these fascinating creatures."
