• Old State Capitol Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge Louisiana

The colourful city of Baton Rouge, with its beautiful Antebellum houses and plantation mansions, is the capital of Louisiana.

The city highlight has to be the beautiful Louisiana Old State Capitol building, one of the greatest examples of Gothic architecture in the USA. Overlooking the Mississippi River, it was built to look and function like a castle, and was the site of the Louisiana State Legislature before 1932.

You can also visit historic plantations in the communities of St. Francisville and New Roads, and explore the campus of Louisiana State University before heading to the bustling riverfront to soak up the nightlife and live music.

For younger travellers, the Baton Rouge Zoo is a must, while Mardi Gras is undoubtedly the city's biggest party.
