Tranquility combined with marine exploration

Designed in the style of a 13th century Swahili town, this resort is situated on the beautiful white sands of Shanzu Beach, adjacent to Mombasa Marine National Park, a great viewing point for turtles and host to 250 marine species.

Luxurious rooms are set in two-storey buildings and overlook manicured tropical gardens or the stunning Indian Ocean. For delicious fresh seafood we recommend the Jahazi Grill restaurant and if it's a little relaxation you're after, make sure to head for the excellent Maisha Mind, Body & Spirit Spa. Family suites are ideal for family groups and the children's animation programme will provide entertainment for younger guests.

Offering a free-form beachfront swimming pool and swim-up bar, sports facilities such as a tennis court and squash court and three restaurants, the Serena Beach Resort and Spa is ideal for those seeking rejuvenation in paradise.

Tired, dirty and in need of a refurb

After a wonderful safari, we chose a three night stay here to relax on the beech. We were very disappointed with the three rooms booked for our family members. One room wasn’t even made up, it was dirty, covered in stains and antiquated. The bathroom with plastic shower curtain was hanging off, dirty and the toilet leaked. After mentioning it to reception, no extra cleaning was done so very disappointed. The room had a lovely view over the garden and the sea, however you didn’t want to spend any time in there listening to the very noisy air conditioning unit. The staff were friendly, but there clearly is no investment being made and after booking a snorkelling trip for 6 one of us couldn’t go as the equipment was broken and not fit for purpose. Although we are pleased we experienced Mombasa, we certainly won’t be returning here. Our three other hotel stays on this same trip exceeded our expectations and we loved our overall trip to Kenya. Special place, special people.

Awesome weekend break

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Serena Mombasa is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi or any other East African city. Tranquil environment, superb service, amazing food and perfect ambience all round. Its balanced combination of authentic Arabesque buildings and decor with modern amenities by the beach with stunning floral gardens hits the spot where relaxation is key. Its Spa lived upto its reputation and we left feeling rejuvenated despite the short stay. Definitely the perfect getaway for the discerning traveller.
