The heart of the magical Masai Mara

The setting of the Governors' Camp is so exceptional that when it opened it was reserved exclusively for Kenya's colonial governors.

Nestled among trees on the banks of the Mara River, the camp is in a prime position to view bird life, hippos and crocodiles. Offering an authentic safari experience, the canvas tents are luxuriously furnished with en suite facilities and private verandahs. From July to October the camp is the perfect place to experience the magnificent wildebeest migration.

Great location for the Mara side

Cupertino, California

Great Place for the Mara reserve. We traveled with 3 families and had kids ranging from 11 to 22 and the camp catered to everyone. Great location - very close to the musiara swamp, were able to see lions, cheetahs, lots of birds (Schalow turaco, Narina trogon) and even helmet shrike We stayed in tent 33, 34 ( family tents) facing the mara and Riverside tents. Family tents were as as spacious as they can be in a safari location. Great view, we had done baloon safaris, early morning game drives but there was always someone to help you whenever we needed even though it was a huge camp Food was good, fixed 3 course dinner with options, lunch buffets with a good variety Service - special comment - even though the camp was full, we were assigned a person to take care of the group and overall quality was excellent Our driver guide Gitari was excellent - we are a family of four who are avid photographers of not only mammals but also birds - his identification along with the positioning of the vehicle made it easier on us for photography Overall a great package - location, competence and service even for seasoned safari travellers

Maasai Mara, Governor’s Camp

Frankfurt (Oder), Germany

Maasai Mara, Governor’s Camp Beyond Expectations! We had such a wonderful time visiting the Maasai Mara; we stayed at Governor’s Camp, such a beautiful place to stay with an amazing team who altogether made our trip a very memorable one. Governor’s Camp is an exotic home in the wild seated on the Mara River. The most interesting part of this trip is the fact that; we were able to view diversified wildlife species as many come up-close to the camp in the nights. For our 2 nights spent here, they were the very remarkable as we got to see several animals like the hippopotami, elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes , zebras, and even lions and cheetahs among others as they all roamed around the camp. Very Scaring, I know; At Governor’s Camp, there’s nothing to worry about, there’s tight security all over the places so neither the visitors nor the animals are in danger. We had an excellent knowledgeable driver guide, Dominic, who kept us to the best spots with much cl3ear views of the wild animals. He would also take time explaining to us more about these wild animals on how they live their lives among other. He also provided us with all the necessary information on Maasi Mara and answered all our questions. Back at the Camp, we received such wonderful care from the hospitable staff; for every morning, Richard the waiter, would wake us up with a cup of hot tea and chocolate to warm up before engaging in our morning drives through the short grasslands( actually the very best for clear sight viewing of wild animals.) It’s therefore best to take on this tour in the dry seasosns9december - February) when the grasslands are low for clearer views than in the wet seasons when there’s over growth covering/ hiding the animals. Our driver guide, Dominic, had great ideas for the game drive and therefore it’s very important to always follow your guide’s advice while on this safari for safety and better experience. For preparations; always carry along warm gear as it’s very chilly in the mornings and nights but very hot in the day, so proper gear must be carried along on this safari. I , highly recommend this trip 100% and a stay at Governor’s Camp is a must take if planning a visit to the Maasi Mara.
