Don’t go!!!

Not a even a four star resort- don’t waste your money. I’m literally sitting here now writing this review. Food is VERY limited, and if you are lucky to get food (room service or restaurants), it’s awful. Watered down drinks, basic wine (even at the “preferred club” which I paid an additional fee ) this resort needs help. Service at portifino restaurant was unbelievably poor. Can’t wait to leave.

Great Vacation, but ...

Boiling Springs, PA

We just got back from another wonderful week at Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay. We were there two years ago with our brother and sister-in-law. We enjoyed it so much that this year, when planning a group vacation, we were asked if we would mind going again. No problem here. The first two days were great, then the cruise ships came in along with a tech company convention. Cruise ships come in to the area on Wednesdays and Saturdays. People on the ships can purchase a day pass for the resort. Someone from a ship actually moved our belongs from our beach chairs when we went for a late breakfast - not just our towels. That was rude. The peaceful vacation turned to Spring Break when a convention of at least 300 people came on Wednesday. The beach was jammed packed with blaring music (love the music, just way too loud) and way too many drunk and loud people (not all, but enough to spoil it). We love a party and a good time, but this group took over the resort to the detriment of the other guests. Not their fault, but it was disappointing the resort did not control the flow better. The Good: The Food was amazing. We had 5 couples in our group and everyone was very impressed with the food. All the restaurants did a phenomenal job. The service staff could not do enough for you. They work so hard for you to have a wonderful vacation. The servers, bartenders, housekeeping, and any staff you might see on the property went out of their way to be upbeat, pleasant and offer assistance. So impressive. We appreciated each and everyone for their kindness. The Entertainment: The entertainment staff are superb and the Pace, house band is excellent. Don't miss the Silent Disco. We saw this on the schedule but did not know what it was. My husband and I checked it out on our last night. It was so much fun. It would be nice if they had one of the entertainment staff explain some of the activities before introducing the band each evening. The bike ride with Carlios was wonderful and it was FREE! It was fun to get off the resort property and Carlios was so good at telling us about Jamaica and showing us different types of trees and vegetation that we don't normally see. The Nature Walk: Another Free activity. We took this walk the last time we were at the resort and found Elaine to be so interesting. She still is and I would go again. The Not-So-Good: Honestly, everything is very good. Had we not been there two years ago we probably would not have noticed some things - but we did. The front desk staff just was not pleasant. They were not pleasant when we got there nor if we stopped by to ask questions. Not rude, just not pleasant. Since we were returning guests and bringing a group of 3 more couples we (my husband and I and our brother and sister-in-law) were told we would be receiving a gift in our room. Not necessary, but, o.k. that's very nice. We were also invited to attend a breakfast the following morning for returning guests to hear about Secrets Returning Guest Program. At the breakfast we would receive more free gifts. Again, this is nice, but we did not want to spend the first morning of our vacation in a 90 minute presentation, so we declined. We never did received those "gifts" we were to get in our room. No big deal, but don't mention it, if you don't plan on following through. The rooms: The rooms are wonderful but they need some updating. For example, the vinyl backing on the drapes had numerous tears in it. If they were closed you could see daylight through them all over. It looked very tacky, and not what you would expect at a hotel at this level and price. Also, when we were there before there was a lamp on the desk. Having a lamp on that side of the room is essential as it was the only light on that side of the room. Some rooms had a lamp and they are shown with a lamp in the on-line pictures. I am assuming some had broken but were not replaced. That's an easy thing to fix. Again, at this level, if something is broken it should be immediately replaced. All in all, WE LOVE JAMAICA and we loved our vacation at Secrets Wild Orchid. Will we return, absolutely! Will it be soon, probably not.
