Disappointing Stay

Omaha, Nebraska

My husband and I stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean for our honeymoon from December 14-19, and we were disappointed in our stay. Customer service varied widely, from exceptional to down right rude. In particular, I had my watch stolen from our room, which was very upsetting at it was worth over $50. We had booked an excursion (Catamaran Cruise and Margaritaville) and were told by the front desk and Island Routes desk to be in the lobby for pickup at 9:45. We arrived at 9:30 and waited until 9:50, when we asked the Front a Desk if they were coming. They told us “Oh they’re on Island Time, everything runs late”. At 9:55, my husband went to the Island Routes desk, where they yelled at him and said “where have you been? We’ve been looking for you and calling your room, you were supposed to be there at 9:15.” We were then yelled at by the van driver as well after she finally came to pick us up, which soured the entire experience. In addition, we booked a private dinner to celebrate. We came back to our room at 2:00 PM the day of the dinner after being on the beach, and there was a sheet of paper for our meal selections that stated it needed to be turned in 24 hours prior to our meal. We could not have possibly done that because the sheet was not in our room when we left that morning at 10:00 AM. My husband went to turn it in and was once again berated, told “we were calling your room, we need this information, where have you been?” And they told us “we might be able to still make this work”. Again, this soured the private dinner because we spent a lot of money on it and did not do anything wrong, but were made to feel that we did and that we were inconveniencing them. I felt like an inconvenience a few times while at Sandals Royal Caribbean, and honestly would not go back. There are other places I can spend my money that will offer better service.

Return trip wasn’t the same

Powder Springs, Georgia

We have been loyal Sandals guests for many years but this trip didn’t meet our expectations this time. Pros: room (Kensington Cove) was clean - but I’m sure this building is the next on it’s list to be updated) Okeve at Mariner’s bar - took great care of us and created a special cocktail tailored to what we like. Stacy at the private island bar - great laugh and went above and beyond the call of duty to care for us. Restaurants: the choices are always good. The new Bombay Club has awesome Indian food. Soy was outstanding sushi. Pizza never disappoints! Cons: The answer always seemed to be “no”. No - there are no openings for Butch’s for the whole week you are here. No - there are limited spa appointments for you. No - we don’t offer that anymore. Lots of no’s. Cabana - this was probably the biggest disappointment. We have used a butler before but last time we decided to just get cabanas for most of our stay. It was beyond perfect last time - thank you Nicole! This year the service to the cabana was rough. We felt like we were putting the server out every time we asked for something. We eventually just started walking to the bar ourselves for our drinks. We were told “no” we can’t get you champagne “no” That is only offered across the island. It was so disappointing that we canceled our other two cabana days we had reserved. Butlers - if you don’t spend the extra money and get a butler expect to be treated like second class. You have to get up early to reserve your place at the beach and the only seats left have minimal shade. If you want reservations to things you better make sure you know exactly you want to do before you get there. There used to be just a few butlers but now there seems to be as many staff as guests. We don’t go on cruises because when I am on vacation I want the pace to slow down and not worry about my beach chair or being crowded. SRC seemed like a cruise ship on land - it was missing the Sandals sparkle that we have come to love. 90% of the staff were beyond kind and accommodating - the others made are trip lackluster. I can say that this will be our last trip to SRC, maybe Sandals, time will tell.
