December 2017 getaway.

Cedar Falls

We stayed in room 1110, main floor. Ocean view....well it was and wasn't. There were bushes and the cabanas for the hot tub area in between us and the ocean. Was a shorter walk to the beach but NOT ocean view. Will not PAY for ocean view again. Our visit was for a week and we thoroughly enjoyed it. They have multiple restaurants either sit down and order off the menu or buffet style. 3 pools spread across the shoreline along with several hot tubs. Each night there was different entertainment. We really enjoyed the country music night. There was an elderly gentleman that sang a wide variety of artists songs. He had a great voice. There was dancing! We love to dance and did so. There are numerous gas fire places on the property. It was nice to sit by the fire at night and look at the moon and stars. Not something we could do back home with -20F degrees! Peacocks and cats roamed the property adding to our enjoyment. This was our 3rd trip to Jamaica staying each time somewhere new.

Great Vacation ... Again.

Toronto, Canada

Returned to South Coast for the third time and will come back again. First, don't worry about security warnings. This resort is on the south coast of the island a distance away from problems in Montego Bay, which are nowhere near as serious as some news reports may suggest. No problem on the way to the resort from the airport. The bigger danger is all the potholes in the road. One of the strengths of this resort is its staff. Everyone is friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate requests. They are obviously well trained and good a their jobs. I am not singling anyone out, they were all so great and try so hard. We stayed in a newly refurbished room in the Italian Village, which is close to the complex where most restaurants, entertainment centre and offices are located. We had concierge service, which is helpful but not that necessary as restaurants do not require reservations at any time. They did greet us on arrival and took us to the concierge offices and lounge for check-in. Room was great. Big size, lots of cupboard and drawer space, king size bed, couch and chair, good washroom with separate tub and stand alone shower. Restaurants offered great selection and food. Our favourites were Sushi on the Sands and Giuseppe's (Italian). Enjoyed breakfasts at Bayside, with large buffet, two egg / omelette stations and lunches at Schooners. No reservations required and no waiting either. We enjoyed use of the pool outside the Dutch Village which was smaller and quiet. Those wanting more "action" have the choice of the pool at the French Village (with its swim up bar) or the main pool next to the Italian Village. Nice beach with a large number of palappas (thatched shelters). Could use a few more, particularly as so many are reserved for butler class rooms. This is the only resort on the beach so there are no vendors or other visitors. Also enjoyed a couples massage at Redlane Spa. There is one negative. The resort is located next to what we were told was a "nature preserve". The website still refers to it being "set within a 500 acre nature preserve". In past years we could walk the beach from the resort all the way around a curve in the beach for a good half hour, seeing only other Sandals guests. Now, Sandals has bought the "preserve" and is already digging up the beach to install small piers for use for dinners under the stars they are promoting. We tried our usual walk once but it was uncomfortable walking through the construction, accompanied by the diesel fumes of the machinery. Although we rebooked for next year, we are going to check what is happening on that stretch of beach and switch to another resort if we don't get a satisfactory answer. No one on staff was able, or willing, to explain what they are eventually going to construct next to the present resort, whether or not it will be an expansion of this resort, a Beaches or something else.
