August 2018 Italian Village

Sandals South Coast My family and I just completed a beautiful vacation at this resort. There was a total of 10 of us for this event and have to say it was remarkable! We all had a fantastic time. If you stay at this resort you will not be disappointed. Welcome home? Maybe not so much but a very nice attempt! Pros of the trip The resort is absolutely beautiful. The general manager of the resort Carl was seen daily doing everything from picking up glasses from the night before to guiding people around to find anything they may be looking for. This in itself speaks volumes. 99.9% of the people that work at the resort have an outstanding attitude! They will go out of your way to make sure you have what you need, answer your questions, explain anything you need to know. The room was pristine and extremely clean. No messing around there! And the bed was the most comfortable bed I have been in for a long time. Room AC worked very well and kept the room to a very good temp for the times to cool down. All the restaurants had good food, great portions along with great service. Make sure you bring pants and a collared shirt for the Eleanor’s! They will not seat you if you are not properly dressed. However, you can eat from the same menu at Jasmines if you so desire. Hands down the best meal we had was at Giuseppe’s. The antipasti selection was amazing, the food was amazing, the service was second to none and they sat a party of 10 without a problem. (Stop in and make a personal reservation for larger parties) Few of us like Sushi and a smaller party took to this restaurant. Again, this was great service and we had a fabulous meal. The sashimi was prepared very well and we wished that they had a lunch menu. Little hint… The resort has red stripe beer however the Sushi restaurant has Kirin Ichiban beer. It is included in the meal and rumor has it that you can stop in the evening get a few to go (wink wink) if you need a break from the red stripe. The kitty cats hanging around the food area are a little annoying. But it is fresh fish, can’t blame em! The main pool was very large and nice pool. The Dutch and French pool was a little different atmosphere and tended to be a better time. Volley ball and hoops in the pool. All the pools have a bar and only one has a bar that is not a swim up bar. Beaches are always clean. Great water sports too. Tubing, hobie cat sail boats, paddle boards and volleyball. The absolute best was the dive shop. I had my confined dives and book/online work completed prior to the trip so I all needed was the open water dives. Nicardo was my instructor and I cannot say enough good things about him. Very clear and very well explained, took his time to make sure that you fully understood the skills to perform, if you don’t understand he will take the time to explain and show you. If there was one person on the entire site that I would say stood out over everyone, it was he! If you are a diver or a snorkeler, be sure sign up the day before! I also heard that for guided tours and bit longer snorkeling, you can do a paid adventure to a site off the Sandals resort. If this is something you are interested in, inquire! The scuba dives are guided, String Bean was our guide. Slow paced, lots to see when the water is clear. Very relaxed fun dives. Water was not the clearest during the trip but still enjoyed the water and diving. Cons of the trip Pool bar too slow, not enough workers at the peak of the day. Standing in the sun on the non-pool side is hot and makes people give up and leave. This is not all the time but at certain times of the day The main pool was not always clean. It is a lot of work to keep these areas all sparling clean. Morning time shows a lot of evidence of a good time the night before. Plates, glasses, pool silt and debris. Cats are a little annoying. Begging and meowing a lot at outside dinners. Makes me wonder if these cats are in place by the resort for a reason? We upgraded our room from Italian Honeymoon Beachfront to Italian Beachfront Club Level Junior Suite. This was a promotion from Sandals that included a Concierge. We were told this would help with dinner bookings, anything we wanted to do etc… With a large group it would be great to have this service. This was a waste of money. • Several times calling the Concierge desk we were told that reservations are not needed and that we could just show up and it would be fine. For a party of ten people, we would go to the restaurant and place the reservation ourselves. • We would call the Concierge for room service for evening snacks in the room and was told that we have to call room service. When we called room service we would get no answer. Then calling the concierge and talking to the manager we were told to not let the concierge desk tell us to call room service and explain that they need to place the order for us. This was not how I wanted to deal with vacation. • Though the entire vacation, the concierge did nothing to increase the value of our investment. Room service was very slow when I was able to place the order. Gym was very clean but morning time was hard to get clean towels and no fresh water supplied before 7am.The elliptical machines are worn out and level adjustments don't operate. The treadmills work as expected but are noisy as well. Rain did not flow away well, a lot of puddles after heavy rains Bring bug spray We had issues getting towels replenished. My sister had to borrow wash clothes from my room. We took towels from the pool one day to use in the room for showering.

Sandals Could Fix a Few Things...

New York City, New York

Sandals should be a calm and relaxing resort. However, there are several things they can fix to make it much better for their guests. First, there is loud music playing day and night! It can be heard far away from the source and disturbs the serenity and natural beauty of the resort. Also, be wary of the insurance! The Sandals website boasts "cancel for any reason" insurance. It “seems” like a great thing! I learned otherwise. If you choose to use Trip Mate for "cancel for any reason" insurance, be advised that your experience might be as horrendous as mine.
