Great property, very formal, great service, but lacked that Jamaican vibe

Runnemede, New Jersey

My family and I stayed at this resort from 1/13/18 to 1/19/18. We had a problem when we checked in that was resolved the next day but we were told it would be resolved sooner. After we got over that, our stay was excellent, very clean resort, service and staff were excellent. Veronica was our server in the buffet and she was wonderful as were the other servers. Diandra at the front desk was also excellent. Like other reviews stated, you are catered to the entire time and that feels wonderful, however, I truly felt that the culture was held back. I have been to Jamaica about 8 times and have stayed at different resorts from Ocho Rios to Montego Bay as well as Nigril. Although the service and overall resort experience was exceptional, I personally want to feel the Jamaican vibe and culture. I'm sure this resort is great for most people, but my family and I want a different experience, more casual, more laid back and more "No worries and Yah Mon"

This is a great, clean resort with super service

Grand Junction, CO

We just returned from 2 weeks at this resort and it was the best vacation we have had in awhile. In reference to prior reviews we read; * our room and the hotel in general were super clean (I have vacation rentals so am really picky) * service was friendly, prompt, never had to ask for anything more than once, if you even had to ask once * the beach was kept clean unless the weather was rainy and windy, which would cause seagrass on the beach. As soon as the weather cleared the staff were raking to clean it up * the food was wonderful - plenty of options even for 2 weeks * this is a great mix of adult and family. We had no kids with us (35 year anniversary) and the end of the resort we were at had very few kids (not that we have a problem with kids). This resort has a WIDE variety of things to do, 5 or 6 pools, etc... although it is rather small (maybe 750 rooms I think). It's small enough that people with kids won't worry about them getting too far away. No lines for the flow-rider, dolphin swim (on site), ocean toys, big water slide, etc.... Going outside the resort gates was a little nerve racking - not like strolling into Cozumel or Playa Del Carmen. We stayed mostly in the resort. Weed is legal and easy to find if you want it but not prevalent or "problematic" at all. Go outside the gates toward town and you can get it easily if you want it. In regard to people complaining of small balconies, there are 3 buildings and I am guessing some different rates. One building has very small balconies - not big enough for furniture but you can open the doors and let the outside in. Another building I think is alot of suites but with lots of balconies. Building 3 (where we stayed) had really large rooms and suites with large comfortable balconies and a full wall of glass doors that open wide. For people complaining about seeing roof tops - wow. Look past them to the ocean. That happens in high rise buildings. Spa was excellent but if you have any minor medical condition, if you think it is not going to be a problem for a massage or whatever, don't put it on the form. The spa manager will tell you that you can't have whatever services in case your "condition" is a problem. We've been getting TONS of spa treatments for 20 years and never been turned down. In fact we have bought a special spa package, so were surprised that this spa manager denied the services and would not budge. We found a work around and got what we wanted but be choosy about what you put on their spa form. We are Palace members (X 20 years) and this is comparablle with other Palace Resorts. We will go back. Great service from soooo many staff: Otis and Tishawna at the front took great care of us, Cheryl, Gary and Brandon at the Steak and Seafood restaurant, several great folks in the spa, just too many to name who really went out of their way to make our stay great.
