Bulgari Resort Bali

The location of this divine resort is both spectacular and dramatic. Located near the famous Pura Luhur Uluwatu Temple, the regal resort teeters on cliffs that offer unrivalled views of the sea.

Cascading down a lush hillside towards the Indian Ocean on Bali's southern coast in Uluwatu - designed by Italian architects, using local materials such as exotic woods and hand-cut volcanic stone, the resort exudes a Milan meets Balinese charm vibe. Pathways are draped with fragrant frangipani, taking you past exclusive thatched-roof villas, each one hiding behind fortress-like walls.

Buggies are used to ferry guests everywhere due to undulating terrain but this is because the hotel’s designers wanted to follow the ground’s natural inclination.

The Cliffside location offers phenomenal ocean views – but when you want to feel the sand between your toes, access the beach by the resorts inclined elevator. This amazing ‘lift’ is one of the longest of its kind in the world and provides an experience you won’t forget. The views from the open sided carriage are spectacular and the ride is so smooth, you hardly feel you are moving. Keep a look out for cheeky monkeys on the way down to the hotel’s private beach. Only hotel guests can use the inclinator. Take a long morning walk on the water’s edge is wonderful. The beach runs for miles and you can walk for as long as you like.

There are four varied and inventive dining options, extensive beverage choices, and as you would expect - service is impeccable – with attention promptly paid to every detail and request.

Absolutely amazing

We’ve been to Bali several times but mainly to East Bali, Nusa Dua or around Seminyak. We decided to explore the south of the island, Uluwatu. It is the most beautiful part of the island with amazing beaches and cliffs. The highlight of the trip was our stay at the Bulgari resort. It is truly pure Italian luxury with the Balinese warmth and hospitality. The view from the villa is off the chart. Food is exceptional and the service can’t be any better. Thank you to the Bulgari team for making our stay so special.

Beautiful property. Average experience.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

After spending a heavenly 4 days at the Mandapa Ritz Carlton in Ubud which set a faultless and perfect standard of service, we felt slightly underwhelmed after our 4-day stay at the Bulgari. 1- the hotel property is beyond-belief gorgeous: the landscaping, the villas, the gardens, pool, restaurant, private pool and rooms are exceptional. The elevator to the beach is an amazing experience. The beach is also stunning. 2- nestled atop the Uluwatu cliffs, the views are breathtaking. Sunsets are jaw-dropping beautiful. 3- now this is where the experience starts deteriorating - apart from Thomas, a young European intern who offered outstanding service, everyone else fumbled. Despite making it clear everyday to every staff that we didn’t eat pork, we were served bacon twice. Accidents happen so we were forgiving and always polite. But waiters and staff generally lacked professionalism and service felt overbearing, fake and not genuine. 4- during our breakfast, what seemed to be the restaurant manager (a burly, bald Indonesian man) greeted us with sweat trickling down his face, paint stains on his wrinkled shirt forcing through unnecessary conversation. We just wanted him to leave us alone. 5- given that this is a branded resort, seemingly appealing to a class of nouveau-riche, there are very poor manners from guests across the board. We’ve seen many people scolding waiters. Most annoyingly, MANY guests use their phones without headphones: during one breakfast, we had music, social media streams blasting from 5 different tables. The hotel should ban such rowdy behavior. It was VERY annoying. This behavior continued by the pool and at the pool bar. We ended up spending most time in our room by the pool. All in all, a great, beautiful, gorgeous property let down by poor managers (with dirty clothes) and just average service (but always polite). Most importantly, this is a hotel with guests keen on flashing their cash and with very poor manners. To avoid if you want a genuinely luxurious, understated and peaceful vacation. Best for those who want flash cash, and bragging rights they stayed at a Bulgari property on their Instagram profile and willing to put up with rude/poorly-mannered guests.

The Beach

The white sand beach between the cliff and the water’s edge is inaccessible to the general public from both ground and sea, as it is protected by a coral reef. The only access is from the Resort’s inclined elevator that takes guests to and from the beach as well as to the Beach Club. The absence of man-made development is often taken as an invitation by schools of dolphins to frolic in this stretch of sea, visible to guests from the ocean view villas and from the beach. As in most of the beaches in Bali, the heights of the tide as well as the strength of the current are prohibiting any swimming activity. The Beach Club has been conceived to provide guests with any comfort while sunbathing, to stroll by the beach, or simply to relax while enjoying lunch from La Spiaggia.

Il Bar

Sophisticated and comfortable, Il Bar opens into a terrace that overlooks a stretch of the island’s spectacular cliffs, offering enchanting views of the ocean and the Balinese sunset. Definitely one of the best beach bars in Bali - the curved bar counter in black resin is modeled on that of the Bvlgari Hotel bar in Milan, while its main element is a massive stone, sculpted entirely by the forces of nature. The menu at the Bvlgari Resort bar offers a refined selection of cocktails, quality wines, canapés and snacks, all in keeping with the Italian tradition of the aperitivo.
