If miles of white sandy beaches lapped by calm turquoise waters would be your dream getaway, then a tailor-made holiday in Sanur is perfect for you.

Sanur is a traditional Balinese seaside town in the southeast of Bali. Its tropical palm-fringed beaches stretch for miles along Bali’s breath-taking coastline. Wander along the paved walkway that connects all the beaches and each day you can discover a new slice of paradise. Start your day with a wonderful walk or jog along the three-mile route at the break of dawn - Sanur’s phenomenal sunrises are out of this world. Even if you’re not usually an early riser, getting up in time for the sunrise even once during your Sanur holiday will be worth it, we promise.

Sanur holidays - where life’s a beach

Sanur’s quiet idyllic bays are ideal for swimming, as the off-shore coral reefs create calm and gentle waves. The east-facing beaches of Sanur are lined with colourful jukung fishing boats, which have become a mecca for watersports. The steady winds and constant currents provide the ideal conditions if you’d like to try your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing.

If you wish to go diving or snorkelling then Sanur is an ideal place to do it, with its heavenly abundance of sea life and healthy coral reefs. We highly recommend you take a wonderful day trip to the nearby islands of Nusa Penida and Serangan Island where you can swim with manta rays and turtles.

Your holiday in Sanur is ideal if you’re considering visiting several destinations in this fascinating corner of the world, which has so much to offer. You could mix your dreamy beach holiday in Sanur with a visit to Bali’s capital of culture in Ubud. Or if you fancy teaming your holiday to Sanur with another country, why not couple it with a trip to Dubai, Bangkok or Singapore? Events & Festivals

Festivals and events are wonderful to include during your Sanur holiday, offering a glimpse into the country’s authentic culture and traditions.

Bali Kite Festival

Bali Kite Festival is an annual kite festival that takes place on Padanggalak Beach in Sanur, and is one of Bali’s major annual events. The festival usually takes place during the windy season, between July and August, for obvious reasons. We highly recommend you take part in this local Balinese tradition of kite-flying. If you prefer to soak in the atmosphere then you can simply watch the magnificent sight of hundreds of colourful and often animal-shaped kites that are dotted in the sky.

Sanur Village Festival

Sanur Village Festival is a yearly festival in Sanur that celebrates arts, culture, food and the environment. Each year there is a different theme - previous years have celebrated bamboo or ‘the circle and the mountain’. This unique village festival is one of the biggest cultural festivals in Bali. During the festival, you can enjoy fashion shows, sport competitions, yoga demonstrations and a wonderful array of food stalls. There’s also a wonderful choice of environmental programs for you to take part in - from cleaning up the local beaches to planting coral and other endangered exotic plant species.

Local Cuisine

Get a flavour of the local culture through your palate during your Sanur holiday. Here are a few of our favourite foodie dishes.

The traditional Balinese dishes take inspiration from Indonesian, Chinese and Indian cuisine. As an island, fresh fish is often on the menu, as well as meat dishes and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. A heady mix of spice is also a given.

Bubar Mengguh

Originating from Buleleng, bubar mengguh is a savory breakfast dish that is often served at traditional festivals and ceremonies in Sanur. This is a warm porridge topped with a blend of spices, shredded chicken, roasted peanuts and celery, and is usually accompanied with urab, a classical Indonesian vegetable salad that’s served with a coconut dressing.

Nasi Jinggo

Nasi jinggo is a popular Balinese dish that consists of rice, vegetables and shredded chicken, wrapped up in a banana leaf. Vegetarians can enjoy nasi jinggo by simply swapping the shredded chicken for some noodles. The idea of nasi jinggo is that it can fit into the palm of your hand and be eaten on the go.
