Great family stay

Mount Isa, Australia

Booked 7 nights with Luxury Escapes for 2 adults and 2 young children. Check In was good and the staff were lovely. They were very accomodating with changing our room upon request. (We had requested in our booking but this must have been overlooked). Room has a big king size bed and a roll away bed which is a decent sized single bed. This suited the 4 of us fine. Breakfast was lovely. Alot to choose from and the kids love the ice cream for breakfast! Pool and pool bar is always inviting with the best staff. Each night there was some kind of entertainment at the restaurant suxh as kecak dance and fire dancing etc. The afternoon tea and chocolate hour is amazing and certainly fills you up. This resort is a 5 minute walk to the beach out the back gate. Awsome place to go and get bbq corn. Highly recommend this place for families with kids.

Nice looking hotel with great pool let down by poor design features and inept service

On the plus side - the pool is fantastic. Our kids had a great time in it every day, and they loved the small slides and other water play features. The range of food available for breakfast was also good - a wide selection of dishes from a number of cuisines. The chefs on the egg station are great. The staff are friendly - but it's pretty hard to find someone in Bali who isn't. On the down side - the interior design of the rooms is terrible. You need a Masters in Electrical Engineering and a wiring diagram to work out how to control the lights. You either go to the toilet at 4am in pitch darkness, or you wake up the entire family by turning on every light in the place. The shower controls are not intuitive. The bar fridge is in the perfect position to hit your head on the stairs. I could go on and on, but it would take all night to list all the design flaws in the rooms. I never thought it was possible to trip on stairs going both up and down, but they've managed to install a solution that allows you to do just this. Short of flattening the entire hotel and rebuilding, there isn't much that can be done about it - except never using that interior designer again in any other new hotel. It's all too clever by half - the features photograph nicely for use in a marketing brochure, but they are a nightmare to use. We had two rooms, and both smelled strongly of sewerage on two days. From reading other comments, this appears to be an ongoing problem. Most of the staff we dealt with seemed to be trainees - it would be fine if they had a badge marking them as in training, but I have this horrible feeling they are fully trained, and they're just inept. Or they are badly trained and the processes and procedures are not mature. I expected a Swiss owned hotel to run like a Swiss watch. Instead, each day was like an episode of Fawlty Towers. There weren't any catastrophic disasters that wrecked the entire stay, but every screw up gave the family plenty to laugh about over dinner each night. Management doesn't seem to be paying attention to the details that provide a great experience. This is odd, because everything else we did in Bali was well run and nailed the details. It looks 5 star, but it runs like a 2 star. My favourite bit of stupidity was the provision of really nice freshly baked crusty bread every morning - and then a bread knife that couldn't saw through soft butter. You needed arms like Arnie to cut a slice of bread with that useless knife. Details, details, details! To cap it off, we were given vouchers on arrival entitling us to a free cocktail in the rooftop bar. That turned out to be a non-alcoholic mocktail concoction which none of us wanted to drink. There was nothing in the fine print about this - we checked. The rooftop bar is very nice, but that left a sour taste in our mouths. It's stupid things like that which wreck the experience. The only thing good about the location is the proximity to the beach front seafood restaurants. On our next trip to Bali, we're going further north.
