Itinerary Breakdown

On arrival into Delhi you will be met and transferred to your hotel where you will stay for two nights.

The first day can be enjoyed at your leisure, take time to relax at your hotel, or explore Delhi at your own pace. An evening visit to Chandni Chowk is a real highlight, with this market coming alive in the evening with locals and tourists alike.

The next morning, after your breakfast, meet your guide, and the real tour starts. Drive past the Red Fort, and through the modern city built on 17th century foundations, and arrive at the Jama Masjid, the most elegant mosque in India, which stands high on a hillock. On the way back from this elegant temple, the tour visits Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi's shrine. Next visit New Delhi. Drive past the President's House, the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the two flanking Secretariat buildings. Driving down this hillock is the India Gate, the great memorial arch built to commemorate the slain heroes of World War-I and the Indo-Afghan War. Around India Gate are palaces of some of the erstwhile Indian princely states that are now public offices and museums.Visit the precursor to the Taj Mahal, Humayun's Tomb, built in 1565 AD, which features magnificent architecture and gardens. In the vicinity of Humayun's Tomb is the grave of Delhi's most revered Sufi Saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin.

Travel to Agra (approx. 5 hours) and visit the Agra Fort. Behind its forbidding red sandstone battlements lie palaces that tell the story of the Moghul Empire. Later visit the world famous Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan in 1560 in memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. This architectural marvel took 17 years to complete. Enjoy the beauty of this white marble wonder in the golden colours of the setting sun. (Please note: Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays). Your luxurious hotel is just 600 metres from the Taj Mahal and boasts exceptional views at dusk, by moonlight, and at sunrise.

This morning leave for Jaipur (approx. 5-6 hours). Travel via the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, built in 1569 and used as the capital for 14 years. Visit the remarkably well-preserved grand buildings and graceful palaces, and relive the splendour of the Moghul empire at the height of its power. On arrival at Jaipur check into Hotel Taj Rambagh Palace. This architectural masterpiece has opulent furnishings, ornamental gardens, a stately dining room, and plenty of extravagances of a bygone era.

After breakfast on day five depart for the Amber Fort - a classic, romantic Rajasthani Palace with stunning interiors. En route briefly stop at Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds. In the afternoon take a sightseeing tour of the city visiting the grand Maharaja's City Palace, the former Royal residence, part of which has been converted into a museum. Later visit the Jantar Mantar, which is the largest stone and marble crafted observatory in the world. Take a rickshaw ride in the local market to feel the pulse of Rajasthan.

After breakfast this morning travel to Jodhpur (approx. 7 hours). On arrival check in to the Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace, perched high above this desert city. Built for the Maharaja between 1928 and 1943, it has served as the principal residence of the Jodhpur royal family since. The palace is golden sandstone, set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens, and an imitable tribute to art deco. Relax this evening and enjoy the magical ambience of this exceptional hotel.

The next day enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Jodhpur visiting the three mile long Mehrangarh Fort. Situated on a hill, this is one of the most impressive and formidable structures in Rajasthan. Within the fort are some magnificent palaces. Later visit the Jaswant Thada, a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble built in 1899 AD in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh-II. This afternoon spend time in a Bishnoi village where the 450 year old Bishnoi tribe has a distinctive way of life. See the village huts with their smooth mud floors, witness an opium ceremony, and see brightly attired men and women carrying out their chores and customs. As the shadows lengthen, the sun casts a golden glow on the sands. Driving across this mystic horizon, keep your eyes peeled for the agile black buck, wild camels, and rare birds.

Morning drive to the Lake City of Udaipur (approx. 6 hours). En route visit Ranakpur Temple in a remote valley of the Aravali range. This exceptionally beautiful complex is one of the largest and most important Jain temples in India. Continue to Udaipur and the Hotel Taj Lake Palace, perched on an island in the centre of Lake Pichola. This luxurious and enchanting hotel has the Aravalli Mountains and city palaces as a backdrop, and was the film location for the James Bond film Octopussy.
Morning city tour of Udaipur City Palace, built in 1725, which houses the Dilkhush Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal, and the Palace of Lord Krishna, all of which are ornately decorated. Later visit the Jagdish Temple, built in 1651 and dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu Trinity of Gods. Also, stop at the Sahelion Ki Bari gardens and fountains, and drive around the Fatehsagar Lake. Late afternoon enjoy a boat ride on Lake Pichola. The lake is 4 km long and 3 km broad and surrounded by splendid hills, palaces, temples, bathing ghats and embankments. Visit the island palace Jag Niwas which is beautifully set in the lake. (Boat ride is subject to water levels in the lake).

After a day at leisure, transfer to Udaipur airport this afternoon for your flight to Delhi. Arrive Delhi this evening and transfer to the Imperial Gurgaon.
