On your second day, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Old Delhi. You will visit the Raj Ghat - memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, and Jama Masjid - the largest mosque in India. Drive past Chandni Chowk, which once was an imperial avenue of Mughal Royalty, the busiest commercial area of the city. Walk through Chandni Chowk to appreciate the ambience of an oriental marketplace. Afterwards, visit the 12th centre Qutab Minar, gracefully hand-carved for its entire height of 234ft, and the iron pillar, which has withstood the ravages of time and not rusted, even after 1500 years. Visit the mausoleum of emperor Humayun - a forerunner of the Mughal style of architecture. Drive past the India Gate, war memorial dedicated to the lives of Laid down by the Indian soldiers. View the president's residence - formerly the Viceroy's Palace, parliament House and the Secretariat buildings, an interesting blend of the Victorian and 20th century architecture.

Late afternoon drive to Agra (approx. five hours drive).

Overnight in Agra.

Suggested Accommodation

  • Radisson Blu or similar

Enjoy a morning at leisure. Check out of your hotel and experience an afternoon city tour of Agra Fort. In Fort visit Diwan-E-Am - the House of Commons, mosques and royal pavilions such as Macchi Bhavan, Shah Jahani Mahal and many more. Several of the buildings are made from pure marble with beautiful carvings. To cool off the rooms, the walls were hollow and had running water going through them. The balconies of these pavilions give a clear view of the Taj Mahal with the Yamuna River flowing by it. Later, visit the world famous Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan in 1560 in memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. This architectural marvel is a perfectly proportioned masterpiece. Fashioned from white marble, this wonder stands testimony to the skill of 20,000 craftsmen brought together from Persia, Turkey, France and Italy. The craftsmen took 17 years to complete this 'love poem in marble'. Enjoy at sunset and take some memorable photographs.
