Itinerary Breakdown

Arrive into Cochin, and you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Have the rest of the day to explore your resort, relax and acclimatise to the time change, or alternatively venture out into Cochin to explore at your own pace.

On your second day, visit the magnificent Dutch Palace (closed on Fridays),  Jewish Synagogue (closed on Fridays and Saturdays), St Francis Church and Santa Cruz Basilica. While driving along the coastline, see the unique Chinese fishing nets, which were introduced by the Chinese traders in the 14th Century. The tour ends in the Fort Kochi area, where you can walk through the historic Dutch and Portuguese buildings - the 500-year-old fort is amazingly well preserved. In the evening, enjoy a spectacular dance show where elaborately made-up dancers with painted faces and masks, drummers and musicians dazzle you.

After breakfast, depart the hotel for Munnar (approx. 4 hours - 5 hours drive). On arrival check into hotel.

This royal resort is lazily nestled in the verdant slopes of the tea country, and promises health with its warming sunshine, salubrious climate, and invigorating scent of the air from the tea gardens. In the afternoon, tea enthusiasts will love the visit to the beautiful Tata Tea plantation, and its museum which houses curious photographs and machinery, each depicting a turning point that contributed to India's flourishing tea industry. The museum exudes a rare old world charm and is strangely reminiscent of the days of the Raj in its elegant splendour.

After breakfast travel to Periyar and to your hotel for an overnight stay. (Approx. 4 hours drive).

We recommend you pack sensible footwear, because in the afternoon you will embark on a three to four hour hike through dense forests of Periyar, a paradise for nature lovers - an opportunity to observe the animals and bird life roaming the jungle, including elephants and bison, who come to drink and bathe in the lake. This area of natural beauty is home to many species of plants, and you will be amazed by the rich bio-diversity of this region.

In the morning, enjoy a drive to a spice plantation to witness different varieties of spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, vanilla, ginger tea and coffee growing in their natural environment.

Later, travel on to the backwater resort of Allepey (4.5 hours). On arrival, board your personal houseboat for an overnight journey. The houseboat cruise takes you through the intricate maze of backwaters, mesmerising and surprising at every turn, with its serene beauty and simple charm.
