• Thien Hau Temple

Thien Hau Pagoda - Vietnam

This 19th century temple, located in the Chinatown region of Vietnam’s capital, Ho Chi Minh City is dedicated to Thien Hau, a deity related to ancient Chinese tradition. Thien Hau roughly translates as ‘Lady of the Sea’, and is generally worshipped in Chinese coastal regions. Although a nod to Chinese culture and religion, the temple itself does feature some traditional Vietnamese influences.
The interior of the temple is a partially covered courtyard, adorned with coils of incense, a feature of many temples. At the far end are three statues of Thien Hau, flanked by guardian statues. This colourful, ornate pagoda is well worth a visit for those exploring the culture and history of Ho Chi Minh.
