What type of tropical island do you want? In Hawaii you can take your pick.

There are over 19 distinct volcanic islands here, although only six are open to tourism. Hawaii's biggest island, otherwise known as The Island of Hawaii and The Big Island, is home to Kilauea, the most active volcano in the world and is the youngest in the island chain. From snorkelling with majestic manta rays and sailing along the Kona coast to watching molten lava flow into the ocean, you will certainly take home many incredible memories from visiting Hawaii Island.

Oahu, meanwhile, is the most developed, and therefore slightly more touristy so is a playground for any explorer or holiday maker. You can learn to surf, visit the many restaurants and hit the urban art scene on this vibrant island that's also home to Honolulu's metropolitan citylife. Just 45 minutes from Waikiki you can visit Kualoa Ranch, a private nature reserve and cattle ranch; where you can explore by horseback, ATV or zipline and visit movie and tv set locations such as Jurassic Park, Lost and Hawaii Five-O.

Kauai, the Garden Island, is most famous for its range of stunning, natural wonders; from the Wailua River to sunny Poipu beach. Soak up the emerald landscapes, jagged mountain ranges, sandy coves and lush rainforests on this island where Mother Nature truly shines through.

Or, why not visit Maui, known most for the famously beautiful Road to Hana? Dotted with quaint towns and with an artistic community, Maui is also famous for the migration of majestic humpback whales.
