Horseshoe Bend

Spectacular river bend

Located approximately 140 miles from both the North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon National Park, this magnificent, and one of the most photographed areas of the Colorado River is well worth a detour to see. It is less than 1 mile to walk out to the edge to overlook Horseshoe Bend, but once you witness the views of the canyon and Colorado River you will be wowed. There are two best times to visit; first being late morning or at midday due to the sun, as the bend and river are in shadow at other times of the day, however if you want to witness the colours of the canyon then late afternoon is recommended.

Horseshoe Bend is not actually located within the Grand Canyon National Park, but just a few miles from the entrance. There are many smaller canyons surrounding the famous Grand Canyon and many visitors assume that this natural wonder is located within the park itself.
