Old Goa

Once a bustling city, sits a deserted historical tourist spot.

Old Goa was once a thriving city and later became the capital of Portugal's empire.  Located in North Goa District, the city became home to diverse religious buildings constructed in the 15th century but later abandoned in the 18th century. Today, all that remains of this once-grand city, besides a fantastic atmosphere, are a handful of imposing churches and cathedrals.

The town has been granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO and the Archaeological Survey of India has converted most of the old buildings into museums to exhibit Goa's vibrant history.
