Caving in Georgia

Georgia is at the centre of the Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia (TAG) Caving Site, situated at the southern end of a belt of limestone which is home to thousands of caves.

The most popular caves in Georgia are in the northwest and include Ellison's Cave, Pettijohn's Cave, and Byers Cave.

Ellison's Cave has the two deepest cave drops in the continental USA: Incredible, which drops 134 metres, and Fantastic, which drops 179 metres.

Pettijohn's cave is six miles in length, while Sitton's cave, found in Cloudland Canyon State Park, boasts a large entrance portal that leads to muddy rivers and stunning rock formations underground.
