Fresh, friendly and fuss-free.

Hotel Jen Hong Kong by Shangri-La is a great option for guests who want to get around this vibrant city with ease. Just 30 minutes from Hong Kong International Airport, 10 minutes from the Airport Express, Hong Kong Station and 5 minutes from the Macau Ferry Terminal. This neighbourhood is great for exploring by foot, and seeing how locals live their lives day to day.  For guests who are looking for night time entertainment, SoHo is within walking distance with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and art galleries.

Start you day by getting a workout in at the on-site fitness centre, and then cool down at the outdoor pool. The good news? It's all on the rooftop, which means you get beautiful views overlooking Victoria Harbour.

Small Room, Close to MRT, Adequate

Stayed here on business in Aug 2018. The location close to MRT and the low price were the reasons I chose this hotel. The hotel is located near HKU, which is a few stops west of Central on the Island Line. The neighborhood is quite local and not touristy, but has a lot of great restaurants and bars nearby. It was a 12-15 min commute, door to door in the mornings to my meetings in Central...which was a great positive. The lobby is unimpressive, but that’s what one would expect in a budget/mid level hotel in HK. Although staff were all friendly and helpful, every time I interacted with them. The room i had was the base category with a city view and it was on the smaller side. The bathroom setup is a bit weird, as others have mentioned but not a deal breaker. However everything worked fine and overall functionality of the room was good, including lots of power points (with multi-pin adapters) and decent lighting. The bed was also comfortable with various kinds of pillows...however it was a Queen. Overall the room is comfortable/sufficient for 1 person, but may be tight for more, especially if with family. WiFi worked well and I didn’t have any issues there. I ate one meal at Cafe Malacca and found it to be extremely tasty with relatively quick service. I would eat here again. One of the other reasons I chose this hotel, was the rooftop pool...however I was too busy to use it...and the rainy weather didn’t help either. The pics look good though. I would stay here again.

Not as good as other Jens, mediocre restaurant

London, United Kingdom

We were here for a family holiday and chose the Jen based on a combination of reviews and having stayed at other Jens in Malaysia which were very good. Location is not very central, definitely not “in the thick of it” in terms of your mental image of Hong Kong but right next to an MTR station so very easy to get everywhere. Also only a cheap and quick taxi ride from central areas. The area surrounding the hotel is not very upmarket, but lots of good local restaurants around if you look, although English not necessarily spoken everywhere and not always used to catering to non-Chinese visitors. The overall feel of the hotel/public spaces is ok, but not as nice as the other Jens I’ve stayed in. Not airy and spacious, and the bar area in the lobby feels a bit “thrown together” and sort of just stuck near reception; didn’t see many people using it. The room was clean and bright, nicely decorated. No stupid lighting and temperature controls that you can’t work out (the ones that are like an IQ test), just straightforward switches which is always a bonus. Temperature control was fine, and the room was quite quiet. We had opted for a slightly more expensive harbour view, which was fine although not exactly a central view of the harbour area given the hotel’s position on the island. The room itself was not large but made good use of the space available. The bed was large, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom area is in what would normally be the corridor when you walk in. A bit strange at first, it has a sliding door to shut it off from the room, but is a good way of making use of the limited space available in HK. The shower was a walk-in which is always so much better than one over the bath. Good temperature and pressure; decent set of toiletries. The hotel provides lots of free bottles of drinking water. The bathroom doesn’t have those stupid little pedal bins that fall over when you step on the pedal, so that was a minor bonus. Wi-fi was fast, free and worked everywhere. Breakfast was a real disappointment. I am used to fantastic spreads in Asian hotel restaurants for breakfast, and this really wasn’t one of those. We tried it once then started going out to bakeries instead for the rest of the week. Definite room for improvement there, a real let-down. The restaurant was also disappointing. We had one evening meal we had there was not a great experience, with bad service, the wrong food brought and then a disappointing meal that was nothing like the great photos. Such a shame in a city with such a variety of great food to waste a meal in a mediocre restaurant. Staff were in general very pleasant and efficient. One great feature was the ability to have a (large) bag of laundry done for just HK180 regardless of number of items; this is a wash and fold service without pressing but ideal for a holiday. True high point of the hotel was the pool; the main reason to choose the Jen at this price point. The views are great. To get to it, you pass through the exec lounge/club room on the 28th floor. I’d seen that there are upgrades available to include access to this (including breakfast) and in hindsight would probably have gone for this if the breakfast is better that the one in the main restaurant. All in all, a decent hotel let down by the food experience.
