Island Culture

Sleepy towns and bustling capitals, sugar plantations and naval forts, rum shacks and jerk chicken, carnivals and calypso; Caribbean culture is always a crowd-pleaser. Dance the merengue in the Dominican Republic and indulge yourself at the Grenada Chocolate Company or Barbados' Mount Gay Rum factory.

The Caribbean is home to a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. St Lucia is home to the distinctive twin Piton mountains while St Kitts has Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. Mexico has an abundance, with 34 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in total, including Chichen Itza.

The best way to experience the culture of the Caribbean is to join the locals at one of their numerous carnivals and festivals. Some of the best known include the CropOver in Barbados and Junkanoo in the Bahamas
