Fairmont Chateau Laurier

AAA Four-Diamond Chateau hotel

Situated next door to the Parliament Buildings, Chateau Laurier is perhaps Ottawa’s most iconic hotel, dating from 1912 and designed in the French-Gothic chateau style. Inside and out, this hotel exudes period elegance, heralding from the Golden Age of hotel comfort. Charm and stateliness still reign supreme in this hotel but it has moved with the times too – there’s a modern fitness centre, up-to-date room facilities and even a tour guide app for exploring the hotel. Soaring high above the streets, this turreted masterpiece is beautifully positioned overlooking the Rideau Canal and set just minutes from plenty of top attractions. For an historic, luxurious stay in Ottawa look no further.

Good location but not up too Standard

Brisbane, Australia

We have stayed at a number of Fairmont Hotels in Canada including the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. All the Fairmont Hotels are nice However they are not the greatest value for money. You expect when paying above average daily rates you receive some level of value for money. The breakfast buffet is very average and has a limited selected option range. When you are paying $80 Canadian for breakfast you expect a reasonable selection. For similar money in Australia the breakfast range would be 3 times the standard of what the Fairmont provided. There are lots of other hotel options to consider and then support the local cafes with your custom rather than paying high prices without the quality.

Not Up To Fairmont Standard of Service

San Francisco, California

They say check-in is at 4pm: My room was not ready till 5:30pm. They charge you just to put your own water bottle in the mini fridge. The fridge is crammed with hotel’s overpriced items. If you put a $10 bottle of water out on the counter to make room for your $2 bottle, you WILL be charged. They removed the charge but I had to ask twice. They left a stern note telling me not to put personal items in the fridge again or I WILL be charged! I was just trying to keep my own water bottle chilled, people. Not perishable meds. Any mediocre hotel will provide a fridge at no charge. Not here. Comfy hotel and good location. But I will not return to a place that gouges visitors, and then lectures us about it.
