A comfortable and affordable place from which to explore the sights and sounds of Ottawa, the Capital Hill and Suites is ideally located in downtown. With friendly service and its on site restaurant, this is a great budget choice for your city break. The convenience of its downtown location can not be overstated. Independently owned and run it's a welcome change from the bigger chain hotels.

Basic Accommodation for a Weekend Away

Kingston, Canada

This was the best accommodation I could find for the price for 6 guests in the area. We had room 611 which is an "executive suite" which has a living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom and separate room with two beds. While most of the reactions upon entering the suite was surprise as I think they were expecting the "Executive Suite" to be a little nicer in decor than a basic room. It was totally fine for our needs although I think it would have been more classy with dining room chairs around the table rather than rolling computer chairs. Artwork on the walls in the suite was beautiful, the lobby is very elegant. The suite was very plain in comparison to the lobby. Major concern is about bathroom fixture placement, a small person could barely sit on the toilet as the toilet paper holder was wedged between the toilet and the door. Everyone found it a struggle to use the facilities. Security concern to be aware of is any guest on your floor can access your balcony, door and windows so ensure that you keep them locked - there is about a foot of space between the building wall and the railing divider. Parking is available on site however they want to keep your keys at the front desk as the lot is very tight and they may need to move vehicles. I wasn't okay with this so I parked around the corner in a public lot which was $22 for overnight. We didn't hear any other guests only children running down the hallway in the morning which is to be expected. Check in and out was straight forward. They double charged my credit card by accident but other than that I would recommend it. Nice and easy, no fuss accommodation.

Good Value

You'd be hard pressed finding a better deal in downtown Ottawa. This place is affordable and should meet your expectations. The location is excellent and within walking distance of many federal government offices. All the essentials were in good working order and of acceptable quality: WiFi, TV, iron/board, coffee maker, water pressure & temperature, bed, linen, towels. There is a small parking in the back, you can basically park your vehicle anywhere (even blocking other cars), leave your keys at the front desk, and they will move the cars whenever someone needs to get out. It's a bit odd but it works. There is a small fitness room on the 2nd floor with a treadmill, an elliptical machine, and a stationary bike (no weights though). It's old equipment but it works. And it sure beats running outside when it's -20C. There is a small but comfortable restaurant serving breakfast & lunch at reasonable prices called La Bibliotheque. It's accessible from the hotel lobby and it also has a separate entrance on Slater St. There is no room service or vending machines. Staff was very pleasant to interact with. Housekeeping ought to be commanded as they do a stellar job at keeping the property spotless. Good job, Capital Hill! I will certainly return when I'm back in Ottawa.
