Perfect wedding spot

Belgium

My sister held her wedding at the Elmhirst Resort on 10 August. The venue is beautiful. The patio where the service was held was overlooking Rice Lake and made a perfect backdrop for photos. The banquet room was lovely with a view of the lake. The wait staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful even at 1am after the wedding. The owner went the extra mile and had my sister’s cottage ready early in the day so we had somewhere close for the bride to get ready and a special gift to the bride and groom of fireworks overlooking the late. The food (all BBQ style and on the smoker!) was out of this world. If you’re looking for a great place to hold a special event I would recommend the Elmhirst Resort in Keen.

Not bad

The cottage was clean on the inside and spacious. Beds were the most comfortable beds I've stayed on even better than some hotels. The deck could use a good cleaning in between guests and the bbq was a little old but still worked. Outdoor pool was not heated so really cold for the little ones and the indoor pool was heavily chlorinated the pool deck is extremely slippery and the room itself was very stuffy almost like being in a steam room. The beach area is small but nice, the staff work well at keeping it clean as rice lake is a very weedy lake so you have to expect some weeds. All the kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, water trampoline and inflatable slide are free to use and in good condition, even have lifejackets for everybody right next to the beach. There is only one firepit that is not centrally located so is very underused. The docks could use a good cleaning there is bird poop all over them. We rented a boat and when we received it the staff was not very helpful and just kind of said okay here's the key see you later. I asked if he had to check anything like the prop for damage and he said no everything is good. We went out staying in relatively deep water and going pretty slow. When we returned I raised the motor and noticed a huge ding in the prop, I know I didn't hit anything as you would have felt it. The staff said oh it's okay all the props have damage without even looking at it. When we went to checkout we were charged for the damage. It took a little arguing but the front desk staff reversed the charge. The staff hold events all week like wagon rides, water tubing, wine tasting, kids fishing derby, and fireworks so there is always plenty of things to do.
