Billericay, United Kingdom

My wife and here stayed here for just 2 nights and I wish I could have stayed longer. I like the island, the town and I like the hotel. When I walked into the lobby to check-in I knew I was going to like it. Firstly, what a location overlooking the strait between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. I love the Pacific north-west coast of the USA and this is just the same. The style of the hotel fits right in with it's surrounding too and the ambience is so calm I just don't want to leave. I admit that in the photos on it's website everything looks newer and fresher but the age has added to the character of the place. After being out for the day you can go down to the jetty and watch the seals play and wait for the fishermen to cut up their catch and throw scraps into the sea. Our room was in a block away from the main building so we didn't have a sea view but it was a nice room on the ground floor with a small patio. It has two double beds etc and was a standard hotel room in most ways but it's style matched the rest of the property. The first evening we ate in the pub located in the main building. It was busy and there was live music so the atmosphere was good. The service wasn't the fastest but the waitresses were friendly and I was in no hurry so what the hell! There is a terrace for warmer evening but we sat inside. I had the Tempura BC Halibut and my wife the Striploin. Everything was cooked well and was delicious. I was sorry to leave here and hope one day I'll be back.

Beautiful and relaxing

Nanaimo, Canada

We were a group of 5 and stayed in the 3 bedroom cabin (21). Overall the cabin could use updating but it was spacious, clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and very helpful in responding to requests. The grounds and views from the restaurant and bar were beautiful. Both the reception desk and restaurant appeared to be understaffed but despite this the service was very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was good and included a nice fresh fruit tray. Previous reviews suggest the premises have gone downhill since a change of owners. I hope this potentially beautiful lodge is given the facelift that it needs; the location is worth it. I would recommend it if you are willing to overlook the few hiccups. I would return if visiting the area again.
