Good location, terrible room

First impression: "I paid $300/night for THIS...?!" - felt ripped off. I wouldn't mask the room as "rustic". It's flat-out old and outdated, not in a charming way. The room was very small with a musty smell, no fridge/coffee/TV, the twin beds were literally a foot apart, some stains on the walls/carpet, noisy neighbors, the bathroom was very cramped (coming from a very petite female), and the water in the shower turned cold after a few minutes. Comparable to a cheap motel room in my opinion. However, upon reading the staff's responses to the other reviews it sounds like a major renovation is coming up next year. Service from the staff at the front desk and the waiter at breakfast was very friendly, the restaurant actually had rustic vibes, the bed itself was clean and comfortable to me, and it's only a 5 minute walk to Lake Louise which is great when you don't have to worry about the chaotic parking. Generously giving this place 3 stars for those reasons. Stay here for the location to Lake Louise - and hopefully it gets better with the renovation next year.

So Close

Grand Rapids, Michigan

We walked out the door of Deer Lodge, turned right and walked a city block to Lake Louise. The room was large and clean. There is a very nice commons area with a huge fireplace and bar service. Deer Lodge has two dining options, one in the dining area and the other in the lounge. The food comes from the same kitchen but the lounge has smaller portions and a less expensive menu. The staff was very friendly and and efficient.
