Cool family resort with friendly Staff!

Plano, Texas

We had booked two nights at Lake Louise Chateau... and then two nights in Banff at the Fox Hotel and Suites upon a recommendation from a Canadian buddy. The hotel is located in a good area where you can easily walk to several shops and restaurants... and it has a heated parking garage which was a plus!... Upon checkin.. they only had one person working, and we did have to wait a bit as the people in front of us seemed to be a bit new to checking into a hotel.. not a big deal.. but I woudl figure everyone knows you have to have a major credit card to check in... anyway.. upon check in.. we were offered to upgrade to either larger room.. or a top floor suite with a fireplace and balcony for only $40CAD more.. so since it was my birthday I splurged lol.. this was a two room with a mini kitchenette... full patio and living area... could sleep four using the hid abed... not sure if a roll away was available or not... it was so cold, that some people were having problems with their locks freezing.. since the middle of the hotel is open to the outside.. with the hot tub steam bellowing out into the sky.. since we were on the fourth floor and it was -14F we used the ONE elevator that did take some time... and I am glad the hotel was not full or I'm sure it would have been worse... but overall the stay was pleasant.. the room was clean and spacious.. and staff was warm and welcoming... these hotels seem to be connected with other "animal" named hotels down the street.. and you can dine at the restaurants at each hotel and have them charged back to your main hotel... this one had a full Chili's restaurant in it.. which is also where they served a continental breakfast each morning... Thank you Fox hotel and suites for a nice stay!

The great and not so good at Banff's Fox Inn

San Diego, California, United States

Overall I would rate this hotel a little higher (4+) but based on other reviews and photos I researched prior to booking I felt a little misled upon arrival so here are my pros and cons... Pros: Great location, wonderful and attentive staff, underground parking, great jacuzzi "Grotto", continental breakfast included, fans provided in rooms, nice closets and bathrooms, comfortable bedding, hot water is instant and plentiful with nice showers and baths, TVs in all rooms and very nice architectural details. Cons: Our room (301) could have really used some renovation, the couch was very worn and cushions were ripped. The double beds were severely worn and sunken in on both sides. One elevator for this entire complex is really frustrating as you have to wait for long periods every time. Minimal gym. Continental breakfast was OK and included make your own waffle stations, fruit and parfait bar with oatmeal, boiled eggs, pastries, toast, juices, coffee served at your table. It was the same every day and never included any type of meat or cooked eggs etc. although you could order those for a reasonable additional fee. We visited during a very cold spell in February so walking to town was a little too far in the -15c zone and we ended up taking a taxi each way about $24 round trip. We looked at other hotels which were closer but much more expensive so if you're OK with my "Cons" this is a great place for the location, amenities and reasonable rates.
