Alila Koh Russey

Natural beauty and striking architecture

Alila means 'surprise' in Sanskrit and it's this element of joy and innovation which sets Alila hotels and resorts apart. Alila Koh Russey is the newest luxurious haven in the Koh Rong archipelago in southern Cambodia, with stunning coastlines, white powder sand beaches and crystal clear waters.

The architecture is cutting edge, the facilities are plenty and the staff welcome you as if you were coming home. It is also exceptionally environmentally conscious too, ensuring a guilt-free luxury stay.

There are just 63 rooms, so your stay will feel like you are in your own private villa with all the facilities of a luxury beach resort. Many rooms have their own private pool and deck or garden area and sliding glass doors connect the bedrooms with the outdoor spaces to make the most of the views throughout.

There are two specialty restaurants: Horizon – serving à la carte breakfast and dinners with an emphasis on French and French fusion fare – and the Beach Shack a place to kick back and enjoy Khmer cuisine, seafood and light dishes.

Those looking for wellness and rejuvenation will love the beachfront Spa Alila, offering classic Spa Alila holistic treatments that nurture mind, body and soul.

The resort is very accessible, just 20 minutes from the airport to the resort by private car and boat transfer.

A stay to remember

Zurich, Switzerland

We loved our stay at the Alila from A to Z. The location is spectacular, with a beautiful private beach and nothing to disturb your view (as it is the island furthest away from the mainland). The architecture of the hotel (as we are used to from the Alilas we have been before) is super and rooms are spacious, mostly with a nice view. It's still observable that staff needs some more training to live up to Western standards for a 5 star hotel (often its a language issue) but they make it more than up with their kindness and sweet attitude and its easy to see that they try really hard - plus most staff is local which we liked a lot! Food is great (especially dinner, set menues available which are outstanding!), the massage was superb, and given the quality of everything the pricing is fine. Overall this is the perfect hotel to end a trip to Cambodia, if you are looking for some quiet days at the beach in a spectacular setting before going back home. We stayed 3 nights which was perfect, but if you participate in some day trips/activities you can easily extend without getting bored. Big compliment to the staff/management, this is an extraordinary hotel!

Wonderful staff

Somerset, United Kingdom

This hotel is a wonderful private secluded hotel on a small private island. Lovely sandy beach with warm blue sea. My wife and I stayed fit 5 nights. Unfortunately my wife was seriously ill and so we didn’t get to enjoy our time there together. How ever the doctor was fantastic. Rest assured if you happen to be unwell here there is nothing to worry about. We couldn’t have asked for a better doctor or anything more. The doctor came out to see my wife several times and spent a long time with her giving her medication etc. No language barriers what so ever. The care we received was better than back in England. The doctor is 5*. Sorry I don’t know your name but you are definitely a credit to the hotel. If it wasn’t for you are stay here would have been totally ruined. Anyway back to the hotel. Due to being in an island the prices are a little higher than other 5* hotels on the mainland so be prepared for this. The food is excellent. Unfortunately due to my wife not being well there wasn’t much for me to do. When I was there I went body boarding as the waves were ok. I went canoeing. They did have one sailing boat but the rudder was broken so whole time and so I couldn’t use that. They have a small snorkelling area away from the beach which is a shame but they can’t help where the fish go. Several hand size fish with some large schools of fish. The coral unfortunately has been sun bleached. The biggest problem for those snorkelling is getting in due to the rocks and lots of sea urchins. If the sea is calm enough which it was on the day we were leaving there is the option for paddle boarding. There is a wonderful infinity pool but I never went in. They have two restaurants one on the beach and a posher one as part of the main buildings. If my wife was well I think I really would have enjoyed my time there a lot more. The rooms are very nice. What was nice the rooms are only two stories high. They are 5*. You don’t feel you are living on top of every one. Other members of staff which made our stay were - Hourt Sapheap (waitress) always made our meals times more enjoyable. A lovely young girl with a smile to match. A wonderful sense of humour. Thank you. Teody (reception) - always happy and willing to make conversation. Showed a genuine concern for my wife’s welfare. Thank you. Chris (reception) - was excellent. His English was better than mine. If I needed anything he was always willing to sort it out. There wasn’t anything that was too difficult for him. He sorted the doctor out for my wife, meals sent to the room etc. Chris you were a star. Thank you. I think this hotel is missing a trick by not going all inclusive. If it was I would definitely be going back. Could do with a couple more sailing boats. The big down side was the amount of rubbish washed up on the beach. Not from the hotel but from other boats I presume. The hotel could do more to clear the rubbish.
