Anavilhanas Archipelago

Situated on the Rio Negro upstream from Manaus, this is the world’s largest freshwater archipelago of river islands and is one of the most spectacular sights on the Amazon.

The archipelago is made up of 400 islands and has had a protected status since 1997. The area is bursting with diverse landscapes and wildlife including tropical birds, butterflies, monkeys and snakes as well as crocodiles and dolphins.

Catch a boat and tour the winding canals around the islands to soak up the sights and marvel at one of Mother Nature's greatest pieces.
