Outstanding service in a colonial setting

Wake up to the roaring waterfalls and the stunning South America rainforest, the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel within Brazil’s Iguazu National Park allowing you to stay as close as possible to one of the new seven natural wonders of the world, Iguazu Falls.

Part of the prestigious Belmond group synonymous with luxury, this iconic residence set in one of the most picturesque locations in the world offers a world class spa providing a range of therapies designed to comfort, energize and refresh with ingredients sourced directly from the rainforest. Dine in style at the two restaurants, relax at the laid back Ipe Grill and fine-dine at Itaipu with views of the falls from its’ open air terrace. In the evenings sip on cocktails around the pool.

The hotel is not just for relaxing, explore the area by going on jeep drives through the rainforest followed by a speedboat ride to Devil’s Pool, white water raft, follow trails to discover wildlife and fly in a helicopter – The most spectacular way to see the falls! On a full moon experience the magical experience of a lunar rainbow.

Continue your Brazilian adventure by exploring Rio and stay at the Belmond Copacabana Palace overlooking the iconic Copacabana beach.

Delectable Dining

Like the Belmond Sanctuary in Machu Picchu, this hotel's location (the only inside the park hotel on the Brazilian falls side) guarantees its 5 star luxury pricing despite its 4 star amenities. The ability to complete the falls trail before the park opens (9am) and the tour bus hoardes descend ensures a lifetime experience imprint. Unlike its monopolistic Machu Pichu counterpart however, the dining experience was a serendipitous Michelin worthy delight !

Great Location - 5 Star Price But Not 5 Star Service

Laguna Beach, California

There is no doubt that this location near the falls is exceptional. However, During this time of year, there isn’t much time that the day trippers are not present at the falls. The rooms are very nice and well appointed. The concierge, drivers, maid, and bell hops customer service is 5 star. Here is where this hotel comes up far short of 5 star. 1. The reception desk and waitstaff mostly act like they are not happy to be there and the service reflects this. Yes, you get the fake smile but the customer service is iffy. The reception staff are mostly interested in upselling you. The waitstaff are totally inattentive. Be prepared to be ignored. 2. On bill had two errors that totaled several hundred US dollars. They corrected them promptly. Review your bill closely especially the concierge charges that are a lump sum with no details listed. 3. They advertise their attention to dietary needs. Even though they are better than most, they came up far short to meet my wife’s dairy allergy. 4. Since it is a long trip to eat elsewhere, they take advantage of this. Prepare to pay $50 US each for a marginal dinner buffet. Coffee and water is extra. 5. They do provide a few complimentary sodas and waters in the in room refrigerator. They do not refill it unless you call room service and pay. Since we stayed 4 days (the average is 2 days), we asked for a few sodas on day 4. The reception told us to call room service as they provide the same amount of sodas whether you stay one day or ten. She blew us off when we objected. This was quite surprising as our bill was almost $6,000 for 4 days.
