Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Africa's undiscovered wilderness

Discover the immense beauty of the Kalahari stretching from the northern tip of South Africa, through Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to cover the centre of Botswana. Encounter vast swathes of chest-high golden grasses, a land of clear blue skies during the day, while at night providing one of the most beautiful stargazing opportunities you will ever experience. Although the Kalahari is known for its spectacular deserts, it is also home to a wide variety of habitats; sand dunes and bushveld, mophane forests and grasslands. This can be an unforgiving region but the game viewing is certainly worth it.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana is a remote wilderness that probably appeals to the more adventurous safari goer or someone who has been on safari before and looking for a different experience  though it is trickier to spot than in other reserves and national parks.

Nature lovers will love their first glimpse of elegant acacia trees punctuating the landscape and giraffe elongating their tall necks to nibble at the leaves. Along the Kalahari’s dense northern borders you’ll find herbivores attracted to the abundance of fertile grasses, and where there are herbivores, you will always find their predators following them in anticipation of a meal. Encounter large herds of springbok and gemsbok, wildebeest and zebra as they bound through the undergrowth while in pursuit are leopards, lions, brown hyenas and cheetahs. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve typifies the Botswana safari experience, with untamed landscapes packed with wildlife encounters found nowhere else in the world.
