Really beautiful views

We just returned last week from an 11 night stay in Sugar Bay. First time in the Caribbean and apart from the jet lag we had a lovely time. The food is very good at all times especially the Sizzle if you get a chance to visit. All the staff are really friendly especially the guys on the beach. Must say the check in process felt really stressful as you expected to fill out a bunch of forms, pay a security deposit and we were also asked to email our holiday confirmation all in the space of few minutes whilst also asked to absorb the info they are telling you... I think it be better if they could just check you in and all the other stuff could be done later especially when people are tired after the long travelling. The bar staff and cocktails are really good but could do with proper menus as often when you are asked what would you like to drink you don't know what to choose from. The entertainment is good but repeated weekly so when you are there longer than a week can be boring. Rotating them bi weekly would solve this. We did a few trips and most of these can be booked in the hotel which is recommended as you get a shuttle service with them saving on taxi or bus with no extra charge. The best trip I recommend is the jeep safari for 5.5 hours as you get to see quite a lot of the island and the guides are hilarious but informative, very good fun! We upgraded to a sea view room and to be honest the views well worth the effort. Don't quite get having the sink outside the bathroom? but not a major issue. Shower was the only thing letting the room down. Apart from that spacious comfortable room with air con and the mosquito repellent was a good touch. We had no issues with seaweed up until our last day but even that was cleaned up efficiently. Couple of annoyances there are a number of of birds which in itself isn't an issue but around the pool area this sometimes creates a mess so walking around barefoot not the nicest also there is no footwash before stepping in the pool. The pool isn't very deep and have multiple steps inside which can be annoying. These are all little issues that can be easily improved to make it feel like an all star holiday. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend. I have seen some of the other hotels that I've considered booking and I'm really glad we picked Sugar Bay.

First holiday in Barbados

Bristol, United Kingdom

For an all inclusive Hotel the Sugar Bay was very good. Our room, although small and a little in need of a lick of paint it was overlooking the ocean and comfortable. Plenty of hanging space and shelving with tea making equipment and fridge. A safe for valuables. Little touches like an insect repellant machine, iron/ ironing board and hairdryer made it more comfortable. The food was excellent and both the restaurants that you have to book into were first class. The steak we had at Sizzles was one the best we have had. Entertainment every evening made the stay more pleasurable. All the staff in the restaurant and the bars especially those on the beach were really friendly and helpful. Some of the reception area staff need to be a little more friendly(for instance our welcome whist efficient was somewhat cool and not the warm and friendly first impression we would of liked.) The gentleman handing out the rum punch was a marked contrast being very friendly. Plenty of beach towels available and can change any time. The beach was lovely although the sea was a bit rocky underfoot but did not deter a swim in the warm lagoon. Another nice touch on the beach was a very helpful umbrella staff and waiters from the bars offering drinks and then handing out cold flannels in the afternoon. Overall we had a great holiday, felt very safe with all the security staff and we will hopefully return one day soon. We highly recommend it.
