Bangkok's Chinatown is one of the most popular attractions in the city thanks to its plethora of shopping opportunities, abundance of authentic cuisine and beautiful architecture, and is the largest chinese community outside of China itself.

Head down Yaowarat Road, peppered with streets and alleys lined with unique shops selling all manner of things, or visit the fresh food market, Trok Isarnuphap, where leading chefs from Bangkok purchase their restaurant's ingredients. China Gate is well worth a visit; an ornate, ceremonial gate that royally welcomes you to the district. Built in 1999, the gate is officially known as the King's Birthday Celebration Arch and was opened in time to celebrate the late king's 60th birthday on the throne.

At night, grab a bite of street food prepared right in front of you, such as dim sum, noodles or pepper broth, or visit one of the rooftop bars for spectacular views over the city.

Make a visit to The Siam Plaza when you are in Chinatown. It is air conditioned - so wonderful for a break from the heat and humidity, without having to stop shopping!
