Gainesville, Georgia, United States

Sandals Emerald Bay is a gem. We can talk about the resort itself, staff, and management, which are fantastic, but what draws you in, is that water. I've been to serval beaches throughout the Carribean, but Exuma water is in a class by itself. The water and beaches are just breathtakingly beautiful. The resort is a thoughtful design! Vast and sprawling resort with beautiful grounds, but the location of pools, restaurants, and bars are centrally located providing a hub for entertainment. We've stayed at other large Sandals like La Toc, Ochi, and SGA and just felt lost before; however, SEB is very well laid out, and that made the experience better. This resort has both a long beautiful beach and a large pool. There's also a quiet pool, but we didn't go there. The only thing this resort is missing is a beach bar. This probably sounds posh, but it kinda sucks walking back and forth to get drinks. However, I did pack a cooler and enjoy some cold ones on the beach a few days. The pool is fantastic! Very large and the bartenders are great. The food at the resort is exceptional. Never had a bad meal the whole trip and the variety is perfect. The Indian restaurant was a nice treat, and some British expat Indian guests reaffirmed that the restaurant was legit. Entertainment: we've been to other Sandals that have put more emphasis on entertainment, but the performers provided were absolutely incredible. One night they had a sax and flute player that was just fantastic. His set was very relaxing, and just put you in a sexy romantic mood (appreciate that cuz!!). They had a signer at a chocolate party that was very talented, she sang upbeat 80's songs that were fun. I'm not a tremendous dancer, but I was feeling it, so I actually got on the dance floor and did my thing. The other fun thing Sandals EB put on was the Junkaroo. The band and singer were excellent. They played Bohemian music, not reggae. Bohemian music is more like New Orleans style funk than reggae. The singer had on this carnival-style outfit and was really really good. Don't tell my wife but I think she winked at me. After the band set, they had a carnival Madi-Gras type parade that was really cool. Everyone was dressed in carnival garb, and there was drums, horns, and everything in between. Again the entertainment was smaller but what was provided was exceptional. I really enjoyed it. Staff shoutouts: Luke at the loyalty desk! The nurse, she helped me out a lot. Uncle Sam working to keep the place looking amazing. The Bartenders at the pool. Big Bird from Sandals RC at the Pub. Indian restaurant staff and chefs. Excursions: We rented a jeep and explored the island of Exuma. Wow, what a beautiful island, tropic of cancer beach is the most gorgeous beach I've ever seen. We ate at Santana's it was great totally recommend going here just fantastic food and cold beer. We also went on the pig tour. It was great got to see some amazing sights and feeding the pigs was cute. Great trip would totally recommend and looking forward to going back.

Second time around

Frisco, Texas

This was our 2nd stay at Sandals Emerald Bay as we traveled there last year as well. We stayed from August 18th – 25th. Again I can’t explain how beautiful the property is. The water, from the first moment you see it,…it is simply breathtaking. Words can never truly express the amazing view. We arrived just after noon. As our room was not yet ready, we took that time to head down to the Jerk Shack for a bite of lunch. Several friends from the previous year dropped by to chat with us. One of the things that you will notice with all of our reviews is our focus on the “people”. And again that says something about the personable connection the staff tries to make with the guests. Resort: The property is not huge, and everything is easily accessible. Depending on whether you are a “beach” or a “pool” person, you can definitely find a great place to hang out. The beach is vast to say the least, and many palapas to choose from. There are two pools. The main pool, near the lobby. And the “Quiet” pool located near beach house #5. We definitely have an affinity for the “Quiet” pool as we were looking to just relax and enjoy ourselves. Often times there were very few couples at the quiet pool, so it was truly a “calm” location. And just for those of you who love mixed drinks. The pool bar at the quiet pool does not have a blender for mixed drinks, due to the fact that this is…..”The Quiet Pool”. But if you want to relax….this is the place to be. Room: We were in a “Beachfront Honeymoon Butler Villa Suite – PBV”. This room is on the 2nd level of the Beachfront villas. Being on the 2nd level you have an incredible view of the ocean. If you are on the 1st level (ie walkout) you still have a great view, however there are sand berms that run along the beach and separate the beach from the property itself. The berms are not that high but if you are located in a beach villa, these will be right outside but you still have a gorgeous view. We did have one issue with the a.c.needing to be reset, when the power went out one night. But one call to the Butler and it was fixed. Restaurants: Obviously the property has many restaurants. Unfortunately the Bahama Bay restaurant was closed for dinner during our stay. Due, to low occupancy. It, however, was still open for breakfast and lunch. You could also order from the menu at Barefoot. We have a couple of favorites, in La Parisienne (French) and Il Cielo (Italian). Also enjoyed spending time at the Drunken Duck for both dinner and drinks as well. I highlight the Drunken Duck because of our interaction with the staff there. It was always fun, lively and full of laughter. In particular at the bar. We met Wil and Elvis the previous year, and they were still there. And it was great to talk and enjoy their company. Also, some of you may know Kevin Birch (aka Big Bird) from Sandals Royal Caribbean. He is currently at SEB also for a brief time. There are many staff members at the Drunken Duck that we had the pleasure of meeting. Dominic (the supervisor), Rolky, Ronniece, and Lynette. If you venture by the pub, I ensure you they will make sure you have a great time. I do want to also point out breakfast at Bahama Bay and Melinda at the omelet station. She makes incredible omelets. And a bright face that we met there and talked with was Anneya. She always greeted you with a smile. I cannot end this portion without mentioning Café de Paris. Open from early morning until 10pm, you can enjoy coffee, pasties, various desserts including ice cream. All of which are incredible. I was a regular, as who can go on vacation and not indulge in sweets!! Off-Property Excursion: Last year we did book the “swimming pig” tour through Island Routes. And I’ll say again, it’s a must if you visit Exuma. However, this year we rented a jeep to tour the island. I will admit that was one of the highlights of our vacation. Just as a note, jeep/car rentals must be done through Island Routes now rather than through the front desk. We ventured out to Coco Plum Beach and also Tropic of Cancer beach. At Coco Plum Beach we were able to make it just as it was low tide. Walking out on the sand bar quite a distance out into the water. That was just an amazing experience, and makes for some of the most spectacular pictures imaginable. And not to be out done, we then traveled the opposite direction to Tropic of Cancer beach. And after arriving there, everyone in our traveling party stood there in awe. What an amazing beach and view. The water, just as it is at Coco Plum, is so amazingly clear. We spent a bit more time there as we were all floating in the ocean and time seem to not even matter. Once we left, we made our way down to Santana's Bar and Grill. We had read about everyone's experiences here, and how great the food was. And let me just say….those previous reviews were spot on. Amazing food, amazing people, and amazing views. If this is your first, or tenth time to Exuma, and you have never rented a vehicle to tour the island, I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. It was a true highlight. People: If not for the people, you would not truly be able to experience that most dream-filled vacation possible. Sandals Emerald Bay (and also residents of the island) are just simply put….incredible! I can’t say enough about the Sandals Emerald Bay General Manager, Jeremy Mutton. He is laser focused on guests having a great time. And his staff reflects his passion. Not only do they follow his lead, but he is active in walking the property, speaking with guests, handing out rehydrating treats throughout the day. So that same passion flows down. As you will not pass a staff member on property who does not exchange a very pleasant “hello”, “how are you doing”, or “can we do anything for you?” We want to be sure to point out a few of this truly passionate and incredible individuals. Our awesome butlers Treco and Mark…and also Nicole who joined later in the week. Luke the interim Loyalty and Travel Manager ( who is from Beaches Turks and Caicos). Anndeka, who we were able to visit with the previous year who is now a butler. A’neshia from Island Routes, Leslie from the entertainment department and Rich Gibson the golf pro. We will soon return to this wonderful property and staff, without question…. Travel Agent: I cannot talk about our dream-filled vacation without mentioning our travel agent Amy McHugh, and “Dream Makers Vacation Services.” For many years now, we have trusted Amy and her team with ensuring that we have the most amazing experiences during our stays. Once again Dream Makers went above and beyond. Their professionalism, and consistency have proven them to be “dream builders”. Without question, I would recommend them for any of your travel needs.
