Honeymoon/First Sandals experience

New Orleans, Louisiana

I am going to make this review as fair and detailed as possible. I'll give each aspect of this resort a grade to make things easier as well. This was the destination for my wife and I's honeymoon, and it was our first experience at a sandals resort. We stayed January 7-January 13, 2018. The island is gorgeous and the hotel is a short drive from the airport. Unfortunately, it rained every day that we were there. Out of the 6 days we had to enjoy, only one day had sunshine. So, if you plan to stay here, go in the summer. Anyway, onto the reviews... Hotel Location: A The resort is located very close to the airport and the golf course (if you enjoy to play) is literally a 30 second walk from the resort lobby. The beach is BEAUTIFUL! Hands down, the prettiest beach I've ever been to. The beach and main pool are a short walking distance from one another, so its easy to bounce back and forth between the two. Also, the grounds and gardens are in pristine condition! Beautiful work. Worker Staff: A+++ (management staff will be reviewed later) WOW! Whoever trains this staff, does an excellent job. They were the most pleasurable part of our trip. Everyone we encountered were so happy, kind and made it their first priority to make sure you had a great time. Everyone was personable and not one worker that i walked past failed to say hello or ask if we were having a good day. They were AMAZING. The resort provides the "Loop" system for guests to give reviews on their staff and staff experience. I would recommend using this because that is how the staff gets recognition from management. They all deserve credit for making this place run becuase they work their butts off. Even though they ask the guests to not tip, I had to tip everyone becuase they all do such an excellent job. Words can't describe what a pleasure it was to meet and be around them. Food: A Food was very good. Make sure you make reservations for the restaurants that require them the day you arrive because they fill up fast. Check out the Drunken Duck for bar food and good spirits. Every place we ate had great food and great atmosphere. Other than those catagories above, the experience was not so good. Resort Lodgings:D The rooms here need an update, big time. We had a first floor suite and I felt like I stayed in a motel the entire time. There is a bed, tv, sofa and couch in the room and they are all disgusting and dirty. The first day we got there, we opened the door and there was a caked on white residue on the table, the maid came in, looked at, scratched it with her fingernail and left it, never to be cleaned the entire trip. The room and building constantly smelled like microwaved brocolli, the toilets didn't flush 90% of the time and the room was barely cleaned when the maid service came. Disgusting. Resort Activities: D There are beach activities to do like paddleboard, kayaking and sailing. These were fun of course, but other than that, thats it. There are volleyball nets set up and no balls to use. We asked the entertainment management staff to find a ball for 4 days and never saw one. Other than the activities I listed, there are two pool tables, a broken ping pong table and a dart board with 5 darts to use. Thats it. So, you can imagine being stuck inside while its raining and having nothing to do but shoot pool and throw darts for 8 hours...not very romantic for my wife and I. They also offer excursions and activities like snorkeling, but they are cancelled 90% of the time because of the rain, surf, wind, whatever...the excuse changed every time something got cancelled. We did not get to enjoy one of those types of actvities in 6 days. **Disclaimer: If it rains, the power for the resort goes out and the wifi goes out. Eventually the power kicks back on, but then goes goes down again. The wifi never recovers for hours. Pray it does not rain on your trip because you will suffer a slow, painful death from boredom. Entertainment: F If I could give a lower grade, I would. My goodness...it is a joke. The resort posts flyers on a small board that lists things going on and if you dont see it, you dont know whats going on that day or night. No announcements, no reminders, nothing. Almost everything gets cancelled or no one shows up, and if it does, you're the only person there waiting for nothing to happen. There was a "Battle of the Sexes" game one evening, so we went thinking it would be funny or a good time. It was neither. It was a series of 5 questions for the males and females involved, thats it. Other than that evening, there was a cultural show in the front of the resort. They need to get shows and performances and fun entertainment ideas because what they have now is pathetic. A synopsis of things we saw--a woman singing karaokee, a culture show and battle of the sexes. Management: D One word to describe the powers at Sandals Emerald Bay is...clueless. They have no idea what is going on 100% of the time. You ask a question, and you get a blank stare and some pre-programmed answer, no solutions, no service, nothing. No clue about dinners, events, excursions, etc...just zombies. As I mentioned, it was our honeymoon...we requested rose pedals on the bed, champagne, etc...to make the experience romantic right? Wrong. We asked the front desk every day during our stay to provide us with these requests because they had not fulfilled them. On the last night we find plastic rose pedals, no champagne and a letter on the bed that read " Welcome to Sandals Emerald Bay! We hope you enjoy your stay...etc"..ON THE LAST NIGHT WE WERE THERE. The trip is over hahaha. We had a good laugh after everything had been so bad the entire week besides the working staff. Final Grade: D You can think of much better ways to spend $5,000. You're experience may differ from ours of course, but I wanted to give an honest review. I dont see my wife and I returning to this Sandals, or any others for that matter. We could have spent half the money and had a better time somewhere else. Thanks!

Perfect Wedding Week

I had pretty high expectations for Sandals Emerald Bay and it didn't disappoint. I had a lot of anxiety leading up to the trip to make sure all of our wedding details were in order. So I would like to thank my wedding coordinator from Jamaica, Jody-Ann for helping over the past two years with all my details. Secondly, on site, Shalise and her team (Marie and Delvina) were so amazing and made sure I always had bubbly in my hand and no detail was to go unnoticed. Even though my reception had to move inside because of rain, I was fortunate enough to have awesome weather for the ceremony which was the most important part. Lastly, Brandon and Kenny were awesome photographer and videographers. The wedding party had so much fun with them and their shots came out perfectly. As for the grounds, the landscaping is breathtaking and it is always clean. Food was great (I"m not a foodie so I'm easy to please). Our room was 9402, request it if you're getting married, it's spacious and secluded. We had two butlers, we didn't see much of one but the other, Mark was always attentive and helped us out a lot for our rehearsal and wedding day. This was my first Sandals stay and I enjoyed myself even with the golf tournament going on. I thought they could have more entertainment at night time and it would be nice if the pool bar could stay open a little longer (maybe in the summertime when the sun sets later?) I honestly don't have much to complain about, some of our guests did not have a first class experience like we did but they were happy overall. If you are debating having a wedding here, you won't be disappointed. I don't understand some of these reviews, everyone has different tastes and expectations, but that liquid neon water view should turn your frown upside down! My husband and I would like to thank everyone at Sandals for an awesome weddingmoon!
