Some well known niggles but Fantastic Scuba

Skerries, Ireland

We visited SRB in November 18. We did have a lovely holiday, but did experience all the niggle problems that have been extensively mentioned in previous reviews. I have brought these issues to the attention of Sandals Management both at the resort and online with customers support (in total 3 times) and other than one reply from customer support in December to say they are being investigated no more reply's since, despite 2 reminder emails from me to Customer Support. I have now taken the hint, I am being ignored. First the Bad Baccarat lost our reservation on Friday 30th Nov and we were made to wait 20 minutes at the bar, before being eventually told we would be admitted. To add further to our sense of frustration and hunger, we then had to wait a further 50 minutes to get our appetizer, whilst the guests who were seated after us were served first. I eventually asked to see the manager (not Everett who was on a night off) to point this out. I immediately received another apology and the lost appetizers “magically appeared” 3 minutes later. Another needless gaff on top of already losing our reservation! The Royal Cafe lost our order on 2 successive days. We were repeatedly told that our "food was on the way" by a waitress who never bothered to check. Eventually we needed to reorder after a long 40-minute wait for a burger. On another occasion, we waited 40 minutes in reception at the front desk to get an umbrella (being repeatedly told they would get one). When it became evident that the desk had lost interest with a lot of distracted coming and going and they were no longer trying, we gave up and went up to Club Sandals concierge and got 1 of the 4 that were there ourselves. Not a great reflection on Reception efficiency in failing to pick up an item 50 feet away. Another totally unnecessary delay to our precious vacation time! Despite being heavily advertised that at a Club Sandals room the mini bar is restocked every day. This restocking only happened occasionally for us after numerous requests for specific items (wine & tonic water) and some very lame excuses when they did not appear. We tried leaving notes to no effect and eventually resorted to doing without or intercepting the mini bar attendant in the corridor. I also noticed that the room keys regularly fail, as happened twice to us, and Club Sandals needs to reset the keys, but not at the Windsor tower desk. I noticed on several occasions, other guests in various stages of undress, trying unsuccessfully to access their room and then having to trek over to the main Club Sandals desk to reset the key. On our last day, after failing to get a late checkout (fair enough) we were told at 3.20pm when we showed up at the Club Sandals desk, 4 different times by different people at the main Club Sandals desk to keep coming back in 10 minutes in order to get a hospitality room to change in. This advice failed every time and only after loitering for further 40 minutes at the desk, did we eventually get a room at 4.55. The seeming total lack of a simple workable protocol for people to use a hospitality room left a very poor last impression for Sandals. This was for us the last straw. Another area that could be improved was the time it takes to deliver our cases. Waiting for 2 hours for a change of clothes after travelling for 16 hours (Dublin-London-Antigua) is not a pleasant way to start a holiday. Remember Sandals not all guests have just a 3-4 hour flight to reach Nassau. Now the Very Good We enjoyed some excellent meals and service at Schooners (Chantelle and Marcian) and in the Crystal room (Rashan). Tamara at the pub is a star in the making. We were very happy with room service (mini bar aside) and our room location (overlooking the swim out rooms) and cleanliness. The loyalty department of Beverly and Jermaine worked hard to help us book our next Sandals holiday in Jamaica. The scuba diving in SRB is fantastic and the best I have ever experienced with Sandals (This was holiday no.5) The basic rule is if the boat goes right from the resort towards Nassau it will be small wrecks and lots of shoals of reef fish. If the boat goes left, towards the airport its all about the Reef Sharks. It is not unusual to have up to 6 follow you around on the dive. They are just curious and well used to divers and you can get some fantastic photos. All the regular sites are about a 15 20 minute trip from the resort If you pay $100 to go on the shark dive to the Bahama Mama site which is about 40 minutes boat trip each way, then it is sharks everywhere 30+ and a nice wreck as well. This has to be in my top 5 dives ever and I have done 500. Well done to all the dive crew (Wendell, Sony, Ramon and Sammy) who really made this holiday for me. A couple of points to note, they only do the Blue Hole dive in the summer months and you never know which site you are going to each day until you actually depart. A simple white board at the dive center updated each morning with the dive site and estimated time of return would be really helpful to our non diving partners.

Disappointed

Just returned from 11 days in Royal Bahamian Nassau. Quite disappointed in this supposed 5 star hotel. Furnishings in our room quite shabby, carpet frayed and furniture on balcony split and broken. We found the service pretty bad , waited over 24 hours and 3 phone calls to get a bottle of wine to our room. Restaurant service also pretty poor had to ask frequently for a drink and no refill offered unless asked for. Waited ages for food to come. Have been to other all inclusive before and had much better service and food than here considering the price and supposed 5 star rating. Will not be returning.
