Atlantis in January

Peoria, Arizona

Really looked forward to staying at Atlantis. Booked the trip for the "dry" season so we paid more for the room. The actual room was very nice. Clean, large, great view and very nice staff at front desk. Only two problems, first was the weather, it rained all but three hours of a six day trip. Not just a few showers, thunderstorms which kept us inside. Not the resort's fault, but really messed up our outdoors time. So we tried to find other things to do. Disappointed! Half of the attractions were closed for maintenance. And this was their high season? Then, over half of the dining options would close at dinner without any prior notice! An employee told me they do it on purpose when occupancy is low to drive people to the higher end places to eat. So, I am not happy we paid a premium to be there during high season and then this happens.

Very over priced & poor service

London, United Kingdom

Good refurbished Hotel and room. My review is based on the price paid compared to other similar resorts I've stayed in. We had a 1 bed 500sq ft suite between 3 adults for $680 per night. The resort is a gigantic greedy corporate money pit, hiding behind a welcoming smile! Expect to pay $10 for a bag of chips, $7 for a Starbucks muffin, $100+ for a very mediocre restaurant dinner etc.. In short it's a beautiful resort but you can get the same or better for a lower price at other 5* beach locations without feeling like you're being ripped off every day. Issues experienced: 1. First allocated room looked out over a flat roof the size of a small parking lot with really noisy air con / extractor units making it impossible to relax on the balcony. We were allocated another room higher up with a much better view (upon request and a 45 min wait). 2. The staff were always friendly, but for the price paid, the service recieved was either poor or mediocre. 3. No complimentary shower gel. Asked house keeping and was told they didn't have any in stock and I should use the soap (for $680 a night!). 4. The double pull out couch was provided with one pillow and a sheet. After 1 night and 3 requests a duvet and two further pillows was FINALLY provided. 5. Beach tower currently undergoing noisy external renovations - don't expect a late morning sleeping 6. Room rate purchased included breakfast. This was not applied to the account. 4 requests and a 20 minute wait and the rate was fianlly applied. When we checked out - breakfast had still been charged to the room. No apologies made. 7. Room rate also included 30% discount on dolphin Cay. I had to ask twice for this to be applied. 8. Dolphin Cay photos were $170 - ridiculous price for 39 digital photos!! 9. With the exception of Nobu, there are no nice restaurants with good quality food at a fair price, unless you like mountains of stack it high poor quality food, or over priced all you can eat buffets. 10. Olives restaurant would be an absolute insult to any genuine Italian chef. Don't try the beef tartare appetizer. It comes totally covered in sugary mayo, balsamic glaze/gloop, cheese, whipped potato and salad!! (As well as being bigger than your head). Had to ask for napkins twice - basic small things like this become annoying 11. The gym is not free - you have to pay extra to use it - even though you pay a resort charge. 12. Both changing stations in the beach tower and royal towers closed at 3pm on our day of check out - for no apparent reason. The hotel refused to allow us to use the spa or gym changing rooms, or a curtesy room without charging us, meaning we couldn't have a shower before the long haul flight home. Again - had to wait 25min to be told this! 13. Signage is often poor and it's easy to get lost in the grounds - take a map and familiarise yourself Tips (if you chose to still go) - ask for a room as high up as possible if staying in Coral towers - ask for a room away from the beach tower - currently being externally renovated (they didn't tell us or apologise) - make sure they don't repeatedly try and charge you for items already included in your room rate - seems to be standard practice and can add $100's to your bill. - go to a supermarket and stock up on snacks and drinks and save a $ fortune - prepare for long wait times at the front desk and hold times on the telephone - prepare to pay a lot. It's not classy - more like a giant theme park - although the water park is fun - try better beach front hotels for less money and take a day trip to a water park!! - Other than the coral pool - smoking seems to be pretty much be allowed everywhere - prepare for some second hand smoke for you and your kids.
