Honeymoon stay at Cocos Hotel in Antigua for 8 days 7 nights

To summarize in three sentences my wife’s and my honeymoon stay at Cocos was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. All of the staff, all of the food, the room accommodations, the views, and the beaches were all perfect. This resort combines the natural beauty of the island and staffs it with locals from around Antigua to give you an unforgettable Caribbean getaway. Read on for more details! We arrived on a Sunday in early July. After getting through customs (took about 30 minutes total) we were in a taxi on our way to the resort (taxi cost $24). On the 35-minute ride from the airport which is located in the Saint George parish you will pass through Saint John before arriving in Saint Mary, where Cocos resort is located. It is a normal island ride with views of the local communities, small colorful houses, fruit stands and some farmland. As soon as we pulled up to Cocos we were greeted by the receptionist and immediately offered a rum old-fashioned to drink! Off to a really great start. Our luggage (2x 50lb bags because we came straight from our wedding) was happily brought up by the staff who gave us our first glimpse of paradise. We settled into our room and relaxed a bit before dinner. Our first dinner was amazing. It rained a bit before we arrived so the noise of the surrounding tree frogs and crickets was the kind of thing that sound machines try their best to imitate – incredibly peaceful. I won’t go into more details here because I will summarize food at the end – but just to say that all of the meals at Cocos are amazing and they even have options for more selective pallets offering really nice, simple pasta at every dinner. The rest of our week we spent soaking up sun and enjoying one of two beaches on the resort each with their own bars. We became instant friends with both main bartenders and the kitchen staff and they really did go out of their way to make you feel right at home. The Cocos grounds are also one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen. Pretty island flowers and trees all around and crystal clear blue waters! The resort has a serenity cottage where couples can get massages and I highly recommend at least a 30 minute, ours was so relaxing. My wife and I rented jet skis for an hour one afternoon which I personally think is the best way to get out into the water quickly and a nice way to check out the two nearby resorts (cocos bay and jolly beach). However, by far, the best excursion we did was the Wadadli Catamaran tour of the island. The Wadadli Cat’s crew picks you up at the Cocos beach and takes you, along with your soon to be close 45 friends around the entire island of Antigua in about 6 hours total. Your first stop is a snorkel adventure at a nearby reef with plenty of awesome fish and corral to see. After that the rum and local beers start flowing and the crew navigates the open Atlantic water to green island where they serve you lunch of BBQ chicken – SO GOOD! Then the tour finishes with sigh seeing of local celebrity homes before dropping you back off at Cocos. (Pros) 1. The food, breakfast options are awesome with fresh eggs and juice every day. Lunch, may be my favorite meal here with two specials every day and a nice a la carte lunch menu with great seafood options. Dinner, also amazing always starts with warm bread and a nice herb spread to dip it in (we had a garlic eggplant dip, savory pumpkin another night all really good.) 2. The cabins, unbelievable ocean views, comfortable beds with AC, outdoor showers, and we opted for a cabin with a personal plunge pool and we absolutely loved it to cool off and enjoy drinks during sunsets. 3. Beach bars, super friendly bartenders who make killer drinks and will bring them to your beach chair. 4. Staff, almost all were super friendly the entire week which is no easy feat. Restaurant wait staff took great care of us and made us feel like we could order one of everything (which we did a few timesJ). 5. The flight to Antigua, travel was super easy and customs was not too bad at all. Best part is Antigua is on EST so no jet lag whatsoever!! (Cons) 1. The beach vendors can become a bit irritating, trying to constantly offer you necklaces or jet-ski rides, but they are all in all super friendly and just trying to make their living. 2. Nighty entertainment each night is not a super big part but I would love to have had more reggae or steel drums to go with our dinner.

Amazing blue

Wonderful place with amazing blue sea and quiet beaches. If you fancy a chilled vacation Cocos is worth a look. You're isolated unless you have a car or take taxi as there's nothing to walk to. Jolly Harbour isn't worth it and is run down. The staff mostly make Cocos but can be inconsistent. We experienced disruptive behaviour by other guests on the beach and restaurant that was just ignored by the staff. Most rooms involve a steep walk so be prepared. Great food and drinks. One main restaurant with a bar. Beach bars close too early - 5pm and 6pm. Be prepared for mosquito and sand flies. Pool is small but with that crystal blue water of the Caribbean Sea right there, no wonder not many people use it. Beach vendors - persistent but not OTT. Hotel security do a good job. Local jet skis worth it. For a chilled out week, worth a look. Note Virgin planes are not their usual fleet so smaller. Airport on arrival takes soooo long like they don't want you to enter!
