Fantastically holiday in beautiful surroundings with a few minor issues

Just returned from a 9 day holiday at this beautiful resort to celebrate milestone birthdays. . As other reviewers have said the beach is stunning , rooms beautiful, there are two sides the Caribbean side and Mediterranean village side, the med side in my opinion is far far nicer and plusher , it’s the newer side of the two, and has a large swim up pool, one negative is though they do play very loud music which does spoil it ! The Caribbean side have quite poor views in my opinion as they are low rise and some of which just look into garden area, no views of the sea from what I could see, and the swim up pool is very small and does look older and more dated. The grounds etc are absolutely immaculate , beautiful gardens that are well maintained everyday. could not fault it. We had a beautiful oceanview honeymoon suite on the med side with a fantastic view of the sea and beautiful sunsets , and a jacuzzi bath which was lovely to relax in after a hot day on the beach.! As other reviewers have said and it is true, if you like the beach as we did as it’s so stunning , you will have to get up before 6am to reserve sunloungers with shade or you will not get one I can guarantee you , as the butlers reserve them for their guests anytime after 6am, I think it’s unfair and very selfish as a lot of the Butler guests did not even use them and towels were left there all day !! The hotel need to sort these issues out and provide more sun umbrellas for guests. There are several restaurants at the resort, the best in our opinion was Marios and The Bayside , they also have a fantastic coffee place called cafe de Paris which has beautiful cakes, crepes, iceccreams and coffees which we went too every afternoon , it was my favourite place ! Be prepared to put on weight ! I must comment as lots of people who we were met whilst there will agree that you need a woolly scarf or jumper in Marios restaurant!! It was absolutely freezing in there , the air con was so cold it did make you shiver !, so did spoil it a bit when eating . Barefoot on the beach restaurant was one of the worse for us , we had very poor meals there , and the staff were not as friendly and had the ‘couldn’t be bothered ‘ attitude particularly in the evening meals . Eleanor’s which you have to book, don’t bother as it’s a big let down , what the fuss is about il never know, very small portions and nothing special at all . Bayside which is just opposite Elenors you will have a fantastic evening meal there ! Drunken duck ok, but typical English pub if you don’t want to dress up , Ok Coral we used it once, very nice to be fair, we didn’t use Kimonos so can’t comment . The staff at the hotel are very friendly in general and most will have a smile but the reception staff on the desk at the Med side weren’t as friendly at all, one lady in particular was very rude and had a sour face when we needed help with something , so much so we felt very embarrassed, I didn’t get her name unfortunately . We woukd definitely return though, had a fantastic time and met some great people while we were there !

Sandals has raised the bar!

Highland Heights, Ohio

My husband and I went to the Grande Sandals Antigua Resort for a week to celebrate my Birthday. It had been 18 years since we had stayed at a Sandals property (St. Lucia). Sandals has really stepped up their game! This resort was beautiful and huge; lush, tropical gardens, beautiful beach, turquoise water, several pools, nice fitness center, awesome Red Lane Spa, 11 restaurants, and seven bars, all with friendly, courteous, and efficient service. Between breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we experienced seven restaurants, in addition to a private, candlelight birthday dinner on the beach, complete with white glove service; all of which were delicious. Our room was on the “Caribbean Side”, room 117, which was an oceanfront honeymoon suite, and was perfectly situated for us: quiet, close to the fitness center, concierge lounge, lobby, the piano bar (a hidden gem, Hersilla makes a great drink), Bayside Restaurant, Eleanor’s, the deli, and OK Corral. Both my husband and I, as well as a few of the other couples we met, agreed that you really had to “nit pick” to find something wrong about which to complain with the entire resort. Antigua has 365 beaches, and each one of them is a public beach, including Dickenson Beach, on which the Grande Sandals Resort is located. I must comment that, at first I was skeptical about this, especially the prospect of being bombarded by hawkers selling their sarongs, jewelry, paintings, conch shells, tours, etc., but even the hawkers were friendly, courteous, and respectful. If you politely indicated that you were not interested, they wished you a nice day, moved on, and did not bother you again. Overall, we loved our week here, and wished that we had stayed longer. We highly recommend this resort, and are now researching other Sandals locations to visit soon!
