Day 1-3

As the Live Music Capital of the World® and State Capital of Texas, Austin has a lot going for it. From its acclaimed foodie scene, beautiful outdoor spaces, and world-class museums to one-of-a-kind shopping opportunities and of course the live music which can be found everywhere from supermarkets to massive auditoriums. Downtown Austin is easily walkable and is the bustling hub of the city, this is where you'll find lively 6th Street bars, Historic Rainey Street and the famous Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, where at sunset you can watch the bats emerge. Austin's bat colony roost here between March and October but mid-August generally offers the most impressive viewing opportunities. South Congress Avenue (SOCO) also offers some of Austin's more unique shopping opportunities with plenty of boutiques and one of a kind stores, however for a more mainstream shopping experience visit the Domain®. This shopping village in Northwest Austin offers a range of retail and upscale stores, restaurants and four onsite hotels within a beautiful park-like setting. Hayes and Jarvis customers can enjoy a complimentary Savings Passport and welcome gift at both the Domain® and Round Rock Premium Outlets® to the North.

Day 4-6

San Antonio

Head south down I-35 to San Antonio, if you have time, a small side trip to Wimberley will definitely be worth the stop. This quaint Hill Country community is known not only for its artists but also for its fantastic swimming holes. Grab your swim wear and jump into the refreshing water at Jacob's Well or Blue Hole Regional Park. However if you don't fancy a swim, head downtown for a sophisticated spot of lunch at the Leaning Pear or a quick bite at the historic Cypress Creek Cafe.

San Antonio, set amongst the backdrop of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is a wonderful mix of flowing rivers, historic sites and lively culture. At the heart of San Antonio is the Alamo, scene of the last ditch struggle against the army of General Santa Anna, where Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie met their fate. The city still possesses a distinct Mexican influence from those incendiary times, and though things are a great deal less incendiary these days, the city retains its origins through its cuisine of choice, claiming to be the epicentre of all things Tex-Mex. Make sure you try the Riverwalk, fast becoming San Antonio's premier cultural attraction with miles of river paths to explore filled with cafes and restaurants.

Day 7-8

Mayan Dude Ranch

Head west along the I-10 to the Cowboy Capital of the World, Bandera. Why not pack a picnic and stop to enjoy the views at Government Canyon State Natural Area before heading over to the Mayan Dude Ranch?

If you have ever fancied stepping into John Wayne's shoes and cowboying up then a stay at this family run and owned ranch is ideal. Enjoy a warm western welcome, hayrides, delicious dining, cowboy cook-outs and over 348 acres of picturesque trails waiting to be explored on horseback. The Mayan Dude Ranch is a true Texan gem.

Day 9-10

Take the TX-16 north as you make your way through the Texas Hills Country to historic Fredericksburg. Kerrville on the banks of the Guadalupe River make for a perfect lunch stop on your way to Fredericksburg, if you have time the Museum of Western Art is well worth a visit.

Fredericksburg's Main Street may look like something out of an old western, but look a little closer and you'll discover these historic buildings are home to a surprising range of contemporary boutiques, antique stores, galleries and restaurants. There is plenty to explore here from the beautiful rolling hills and country parks to historic site such as the Verins Kirche Museum and Pioneer Museum complex. Not to mention 15 award winning wineries along Fredericksburg Wine Road 290, why not stop by for a tasting at one of two of the wineries, or even better, take one of the local tours so your whole party can enjoy a taste.

As you make your back to Austin, be sure to stop in Luckenback, Texas. This unique town just outside of Fredericksburg has a population of 3, and the general store is a definite must visit. Try to stop by during a pickers circle for an authentic Hills Country music experience.
