Peru’s alluring south calls you to discover the magic of its desert, archaeological sites and miles and miles of wondrous coast. Embark on a three day adventure to the stunning small town of Paracas, and experience some of Peru’s southern gems.
Journey to Paracas, where the rocky desert gives way to the rolling waves of the Pacific Ocean. There’s an arid beauty to discover here, and a good dose of mystery too. Take to the skies over the Nazca Lines and gaze below at the perplexing geometric shapes etched into the desert sand, a decoration of the landscape from over 1,500 years ago. Venture out into the ocean and find an oasis of undisturbed wildlife on the Ballestas Islands, a group of protected rocky islands that lie just 30 minutes off the coast with an exhilarating speedboat journey. Circle the islands by boat, and lose yourself in the wonder of the spectacular wildlife; the sea lions that laze on the shorelines, the abundance of seabirds, and the penguins that sweetly waddle among the cliffs.

Start your Journey
Lima - Paracas
Today, your Peruvian South Coast adventure begins as you’re picked up from your hotel in Lima and taken to the station to board the bus to Paracas. When you reach the coastal town of Paracas, your local guide will meet and take you to your hotel.
You might choose to stay in Paracas and uncover the small town’s beauty, or perhaps you’d rather take an optional flight over the Nazca Lines (to be booked in advance). You’ll be picked up and taken to Capitán FAP Renán Elías Olivera Airport in Pisco to board the plane, then enjoy a 90 minute journey over the fascinating Nazca Lines. These striking giant geoglyphs are etched into the Peruvian desert and are one of the world’s biggest mysteries. First reported on in 1927, these geoglyphs became more popular with air travel - as they are best seen from above and can even be witnessed from Outer Space. It is believed that the Nazca Lines were created by Pre-Incan communities between the 4th century BC and 10th century AD, and some archaeologists hypothesize that they were believed to be used for ritual astronomical functions, but this is still undetermined. Most remarkably, many of the living plants, animals and bird life that are depicted in the ancient drawings can only be found in far-flung regions from the site of the Nazca Lines.
A little later, return to your hotel in Paracas and enjoy your first night in this wonderful part of Peru.
As you enjoy breakfast this morning, get ready for a day of discovery. You’ll be taken to the pier to board a boat to the Ballestas Islands. Just a few miles off the Peruvian coast, the breath-taking islands await with a whole array of flora and fauna ready to awe you, including a bounty of frolicking sea lions.
After taking in the beauty of the islands, you’ll return to Paracas and spend the rest of the day at your leisure. You might choose to visit the Paracas National Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site (payable locally). Explore this stunning area and discover the desert land, marine ecosystems and archaeological remains that the site protects.
