Start your Journey
Lima - Trujillo
As you arrive in Trujillo, you’ll be met at the airport and driven to your hotel, where you can start off your stay with a delicious breakfast. Get to know the city of Trujillo this morning as you enjoy a walking tour. Take in the sights on the Main Square and Cathedral, as well as the city’s churches, temples and colonial mansions.
Afterwards, journey just outside of the city to visit the temples of the Sun and the Moon. Once used for ceremonial purposes, these fascinating pyramid temples date from 1-VIII BC. You’ll then get the chance to learn more as you visit the nearby museum Huacas de Moche, perusing the various artefacts of the Mochica culture that the museum exhibits.
Later on, sample even more of the region’s history by visiting the carefully-preserved Huaca del Dragon (Dragon Ceremonial Temple). Continue on to the Huanchaco, a seaside town where you can watch local fisherman on their caballitos de totora (reed boats). After enjoying lunch here, make your final stop of the day at Chan Chan, the Americas’ largest pre-Columbian city. While most of the city has been eroded by severe weather, you’ll still get to see some incredibly-preserved remains. It doesn’t matter if you’re an amateur or professional archaeology enthusiast - you will love spending quality time in these excavation grounds.
After a day of exploring, you’ll be driven back to your hotel where you’ll spend the night.
Trujillo - Chiclayo
Today, you’ll leave Trujillo behind and head towards Chiclayo. Your first stop of the day is El Brujo, an archaeological complex with evidence of human settlements from 6,000 years ago. Learn about the only known female ruler of the region, Señora de Cao (Lady of Cao), and see her well-preserved ceremonial mummy.
Venture on to Chiclayo, where you’ll get to visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum and take in the fascinating history of its collections.
Chiclayo - Lima
Your tour of northern Peru’s history continues today as you visit Huaca Rajada, a Moche archaeological site where the complete tomb of the Lord of Sipan was found, and wander the site’s museum.
Afterwards, continue on to the impressive Tucume. Known as the Valley of the Pyramids, Tcucume is one of Peru’s biggest pyramid complexes with 26 major mounds, and was used by three consecutive cultures over a 500 year span.
