Santiago de Chile
Arriving in the morning, our tour of Chile starts in Santiago De Chile. Our expert tour guide will take you on your first tour along the San Francisco Church, Santa Lucia Hill, Barrio and Londres, the Piazza de Armas and the cathedral. Enjoy a local lunch at the famous Central Market, where you’ll find fresh produce and freshly caught fish from the coast. It’s been named one of National Geographic’s top ten food markets in the world - try the delicacy pisco sour (clams au gratin) and the centolla (king crab) for a true slice of local life.
After lunch, you’ll head towards Santiago’s colourful main avenue, Alameda. Explore the busy street on the southern border of Santiago and see the bright bursts of reds, blues and yellows along with the city murals until you reach the Palacio de la Moneda (The Moneda Palace), home to the President of the Republic of Chile. Then, you’ll drive up to the Cristobal Hill in the heart of Santiago. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy incredible views of the city - the entire cityscape, dotted with high rise buildings and neighbourhoods against a majestic backdrop of the Andes mountains.
Santiago de Chile
Enjoy your second day at your leisure, as you explore Santiago de Chile at your own pace. There’s much to explore in the bustling city. Or you could choose to simply unwind, settle in and relax.
In the afternoon, you can join our optional excursion to Vinolia for a Chilean wine tasting tour.
Santiago de Chile - Puerto Montt - Puerto Varas
This morning, you’ll make your way to Santiago Airport for a short flight to the port city in southern Chile’s Lake District - Puerto Montt. From there, you’ll be met and transferred to Puerto Varas (12 miles away), known by visitors as “the city of roses”. This charming little town is bursting with tradition and culture, from street festivals to classic Germanic architecture.
Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. Stroll along the shore of Chile’s second largest lake, Llanquihue. From waterfront restaurants and bars, enjoy splendid views over clear lakes with a glass of Chilean wine in hand. Take in the scene of the two snow covered volcanoes, Osorno and Calbuco that loom behind the lake.
Begin your morning with a leisurely boat ride along the stunning glacial lake of Todos Los Santos. The beauty of this lake has earned it the nickname Lago Esmerelda because of its striking emerald green and blue shifting colours. You’ll sail past snow capped volcanoes and mountains covered in a green forest along the way. See the renowned Petrohue Waterfalls and then enjoy a two hour sail on the lake for a closer look at the volcanoes Osorno, Puntiagudo and Tronodor.
The day continues with a trip to the little ecological village of Peulla, which has just 120 inhabitants. On route to the famous Andean Crossing, there are plenty of activities to enjoy, including canopying, horse riding and exhilarating 4x4 safari’s.
After a long day, you’ll be accompanied back to your hotel.
You’re almost halfway through your tour of Chile. Enjoy a day at leisure in the cosy, lakeside town of Puerto Varas. Discover the history of the region at the Museo Pablo Fierro. Visit some of the boutique clothing stores at the Artesan Fair and stop for a chat with the friendly and passionate artisans along the way.
Puerto Varas - Puerto Montt - Punta Arenas
This morning, leave Puerto Varas behind for a short flight to Punta Arenas. On the way, you can enjoy a sightseeing tour of Puerto Montt. Discover where German settlers from 1852 left their architectural mark in the style of the wooden houses. You’ll head along Costanera Avenue and continue until you reach a viewing point of the city, Reloncavi Bay, Tenglo Island and the channels.
Go through the town’s centre, passing the bustling square and the cathedral, which is the oldest standing building in the region. We’ll make a stop in Angelmo, a seafood market loved by locals and located at the port. Find your way through a long street packed with stalls and stands selling traditional Chilean handicraft. To eat like a local, have lunch at one of the many cocineria, or ‘kitchen restaurant’. You’ll find rows of these kitchens, which allow you to see the kitchen behind a large window so you can watch your food being prepared.
Punta Arenas - Torres Del Paine National Park
This morning, it’s time for a half day tour of the southernmost city in Chile. Punta Arenas is home to a wealth of historical monuments on Independence Avenue. Then, head to the Cerro La Cruz vantage point nearby, where a sweeping view of brightly coloured house roofs and the Tierra del Fuego Island awaits.
After the morning’s tour, head back to your hotel, where you’ll be picked up at 13.30 by one of our guides. You’ll travel to the National Park Torres del Paine, perhaps the most spectacular scenic area in the entire region, and covering 113,000 hectares of land. The Park is known for its soaring mountains and rows of bright blue icebergs that look like they’ve been lit up from within themselves. The tumbling waterfalls, shimmering blue lagoons, and red, jagged mountain spires together is a sight that will leave you lost for words.
After a packed day of exploring the wonders of Punta Arenas and the Torres Del Paine, head back to your hotel and enjoy a Chilean dinner in the Hotel Rio Serrano’s gastronomic restaurant.
