Start your Journey
On your first day, you'll fly late at night into the capital of Jordan, Amman, to Queen Alia Airport. Upon arrival, you'll be met and greeted at the airport before being taken to your hotel. Enjoy a delicious dinner and a restful night's sleep before your Middle Eastern adventure begins the following morning.
Amman - Petra
Often forgotten on the way to the more famous Petra and the Dead Sea, Amman is a hive of culture and activity, making it the perfect city for a morning's exploration.
After breakfast, you'll have the opportunity to tour the historic part of Amman, stopping off at the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum, the citadel, the blue mosque and the second century Roman amphitheatre, which once seated 7,000 people.
Surrounded by the city's many hills, you'll find some fantastic places to stop for coffee. It’s also a great time to discover thriving souks (Arabian bazaars). Amman is a blend of old and new, with ancient ruins juxtaposing the more modern western areas, which are home to shopping malls and art galleries.
Continue on your journey to the old Roman city of Jerash, north of Amman, and discover Bronze Age history. Visit Roman hilltop temples, as well as Hadrian's Arch, which was built in A.D. 129, and the Temple of Artemis. You can also witness the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, built around A.D. 162. Once raced along by Roman chariots, you can walk through ancient colonnaded streets and along the city walls. Witness the 56 impressive columns that continue to surround the limestone plaza, the baths and fountains.
Your next and final stop for your second day in Jordan is further north. Head towards Petra, the famous ancient archaeological site. Sit down to a beautiful dinner in your hotel and relax before another day of sightseeing at one of Jordan’s greatest cities.
Once you've had a good breakfast, you'll head into the depths of one of Jordan's most famous and beloved highlights - the Nabatean Red Rose city of Petra. A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven New Wonders of the World, Petra dates back to around 300 B.C. and can be entered through a narrow gorge, with imposing, towering cliffs either side. Your Jordan tour today is an excellent way to acquaint yourself with everything this staggering site offers.
Spend the day exploring the 'Rose City' - so named due to its pinky coloured sandstone cliff. Discover intricate and stunning rock formations and temple carvings. Take in some spectacular ancient city sights, including Roman-style theatres, sacrificial altars, colonnaded streets, and tombs.
Visit the instantly-recognisable Treasury, known as Al Khazneh, with its Hellenistic facade and beautiful carvings, and then take a walk up to the High Place of Sacrifice, built on top of the hill. The theatre, built over 2,000 years ago, is a fascinating site of architectural intrigue, carved out of the rock and originally holding over 8,000 people.
After a day spent taking in Petra's unique and wonderful sights, head back to your hotel for dinner and a good night's rest.
Petra - Aqaba
Once you've eaten breakfast, your Highlights of Jordan tour continues with the drive to the city of Aqaba. The town is famed for its unspoilt sandy beaches and coral reefs. It’s a true gem of the Red Sea, and a complete contrast to the desert land of Petra.
A port city, Aqaba is popular for its beach resorts, watersports and the Yamanieh coral reef in the Aqaba Marine Park. Discover colourful, exotic marine life below the water with fantastic diving and snorkelling opportunities, or relax on one of the stunning beaches to soak up some sun and observe this unique coastal city from the land.
Aqaba is also popular for its cultural experiences, with nearby Aqaba Fortress being a great place to stop and visit, as well as the Sharif Hussein bin Ali Mosque.
To really immerse yourself in the Jordanian way of life, indulge in some authentic food at one of the vibrant souks, where you'll find spices, local fruits, vegetables and sweet pastries, and eat at some of the city's buzzing restaurants and bars.
Uncover the Arab charm of Aqaba and spend the night here.
Aqaba - Bethany
After breakfast, we depart Aqaba and head north west to Bethany.
Located close to the end of the Jordan Valley near the Dead Sea, Bethany is a site of huge historical and religious significance to travellers all over the world. This site is said to be where John the Baptist preached and where Jesus Christ was baptised.
Take a walk to the legendary Spring of John the Baptist, where he was alleged to have carried out some of his baptisms. Then head to the baptism site of Jesus Christ, frequented by Christian pilgrims all year round. A walking trail takes you to this historic spot in the Jordan River, allowing you to admire the remains of fifth century Byzantine churches along the way.
Venture onwards to the Dead Sea, a salt lake that lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, where you'll stay overnight in a beautiful hotel.
