This unforgettable adventure through the Maritime provinces will lead you to some incredible places, from modern cities to wild national parks and charming seaside villages.
On this 23 day tour, you’ll get to experience some of the most breath-taking sights that Canada’s eastern coast has to offer. Journey through the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, and discover the rich culture and history they hold.
You’ll get to uncover sites that shed light on the area’s Scottish, Acadian and First Nations heritage. Visit intriguing reconstructions of old European settlements and wander UNESCO World Heritage sites. These paint a picture of an old way of life, some aspects of which still live on in the provinces’ small villages and coastal towns.
Witness the beautiful Bay of Fundy and take to the water on boat tours and ferries, looking out for majestic marine life. Watch in awe as whales frolic in the water and sea birds laze on the shores. If you’re lucky, you might even witness giant icebergs floating by. Arrive in the vibrant city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and make your way to your hotel. Tonight, you’ll get to meet your fellow travellers and tour director at a welcome reception before spending your first night in Halifax.
Halifax - Moncton
Leave Halifax behind this morning and climb aboard the coach. Enjoy the beautiful views across the Bay of Fundy as your coach takes you along the coastline. After a visit to the intriguing UNESCO World Heritage site of Joggins Fossil Cliffs, you’ll cross into the province of New Brunswick. Here, you’ll get to experience a delicious lobster supper aboard a lobster boat on the Shediac Bay. Your final destination for today is the city of Moncton, where you’ll get to relax and spend the night.
Moncton - Saint John
Take to the road again and visit the Bay of Fundy’s iconic Hopewell Rocks. Explore the impressive flower-pot shaped rock formations, then travel on through Fundy National Park. Reach the city of Saint John and enjoy a city tour, including the wonderful Reversing Falls, then check into your hotel.
St. Andrews-by-the-Sea / Saint John
Spend today being charmed by the beautiful coastal town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. Embark on a whale-watching boat tour (weather permitting), looking out for the wondrous sight of these majestic sea creatures, then enjoy the rest of your day exploring the town at leisure. This evening, head back to Saint John and spend another night here.
Saint John - Annapolis Valley
This morning, spend a while exploring Saint John, then take a ferry back to Nova Scotia. Enjoy the journey across the Bay of Fundy, keeping an eye out for whales, before you arrive in Digby. Tonight will be spent in Annapolis Valley.
Annapolis Valley - Halifax
Today, you’ll make your way to the city of Halifax once again. On the way, learn about the area’s French history, tour a winery, and sample some of its delicious wines.
Today is all about exploring Halifax’s local area. Enjoy breakfast in the iconic fishing village of Peggy’s Cove, then continue on to Lunenbug. Take a walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage site town and wander the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, the perfect way to learn about the area’s history and the towns seafaring heritage. Head back to Halifax this evening and spend another night in the city.
Halifax - Charlottetown
The first stop of the day is the Glooscap Heritage Centre & Mi’kmaq Museum, where you’ll learn about the intriguing Mi’kmaq culture. Continue your journey and cross the Confederation Bridge over to Prince Edward Island. Tonight, get ready to experience true Maritime hospitality as you devour delicious seafood at a traditional lobster supper. Afterwards, check into your Charlottetown hotel and relax for the night.
Charlottetown / Prince Edward Island
This morning is yours to explore Charlottetown as you please, or you could choose to get to know the city on an optional walking tour. This afternoon’s drive will take you across Prince Edward Island, with stunning scenery of red cliffs, beautiful beaches, sand dunes and green fields. Visit Prince Edward Island National Park, then continue on to the Green Gables Heritage Site, the place that inspired the iconic Anne of Green Gables books. After taking in a theatre performance at the Confederation Centre of the Arts (dependant on the theatre schedule), head back to your hotel and spend another night in Charlottetown.
Charlottetown - Baddeck
Bid farewell to Prince Edward Island this morning and board a ferry back to Nova Scotia, then journey across the Canso Causeway and reach Cape Breton Island. Here, you’ll get to visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, before reaching Bras d’Or Lake, your stop for the night.
Baddeck / Cabot Trail
Today’s drive takes you along the Cabot Trail and up to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The Cabot Trail is one of North America’s most beautiful drives. Sit back and enjoy the stunning views from the coach window and the many incredible lookouts. After soaking up the trail’s many vistas, head to the coast and take to the water on a whale-watching boat tour (weather-permitting). As the day comes to an end, travel back to Baddeck, where you’ll spend the night once more.
Baddeck - Port-Aux-Basques
Step back in time this morning at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, a reconstruction of an 18th century French settlement. Once you’ve stepped back into present day, board a Marine Atlantic Ferry and settle in for a relaxing overnight crossing to Port-Aux-Basques, Newfoundland.
Port-Aux-Basques - Port au Choix
Get ready for another beautiful journey today. Board the coach and let it take you through the Codroy Valley, with beautiful views of the Long Range and Anguille Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Drive through the stunning Gros Morne National Park and eventually reach Port au Choix, the fishing community that will be your home for the night.
Port au Choix - L’Anse au Clair
This morning, cross the Strait of Belle Isle as you take a ferry to Labrador. When you reach Labrador, visit the Red Bay National Historic Site, once home to a 16th century Basque whaling station, then spend the night in L’Anse au Clair.
L’Anse au Clair - St. Anthony
Today, you’ll travel back to Newfoundland and visit L’Anse aux Meadows, the site of North America’s earliest known European settlement. Wander this incredible site and learn about the Viking lifestyle through the exhibits that showcase intriguing Viking artifacts. Tonight, relax and get some sleep in St. Anthony.
St. Anthony - Cow Head
Board a boat today and enjoy another chance to see some of the incredible whales that swim in the Canadian waters (weather-permitting). In summer, you might even get to watch as giant icebergs drift on by on their journey from the Arctic Circle. When you reach solid ground, continue on to Cow’s Head, your stop for the night.
Gros Morne / Cow Head
Gros Morne National Park awaits today. Discover its stunning scenery, roaming wildlife and endless adventure. Take to the water on a boat tour (weather-permitting) and learn about the Tablelands, where the earth’s mantle lies exposed. Explore the waters of the fiord, spotting whales and bald eagles and learning about the villages that sit on its shores. Spend another night in Cow Head and rest up ready for tomorrow.
Cow Head - Gander
Today’s journey will take you across central Newfoundland. You’ll arrive in the town of Gander, where you can check into your hotel and relax for the evening.
Gander / Twillingate
Enjoy a drive along the shore of Notre Dame Bay this morning and end up in the town of Twillingate. Head to the tip of the island to visit a local co-operative and see the charming Long Point Lighthouse. Later on, journey back to Gander and take a wander around the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, before settling down for the night.
Gander - Clarenville
Drive along the Trans Canada Highway enjoying the journey to Clarenville. Immerse yourself in the spectacular views and look out for roaming wildlife as you pass through Terra Nova National Park. Make a stop at the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Park and the town of Trinity, then make your way to Clarenville, your stop for the night.
Clarenville - St. John’s
Today, travel to Newfoundland’s capital and North America’s oldest city of St. John’s. Get to know the area on a city tour, taking in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the downtown and waterfront areas, and the incredible views across the Atlantic from Signal Hill.
Spend the whole day exploring the area around St. John’s. See the incredible Witless Bay Ecological Reserve on a boat tour (weather-permitting), and visit the Cape Spear National Historic Site. The rest of your afternoon is free to spend time relaxing and exploring the city, before settling down for the last night of the tour.
Depart from St. John’s
Bid your fellow travellers farewell as you leave this wonderful city. Make your way to the airport and catch your return flight home.
