Start your Journey

Day 1

Arrive Lombok Airport to Labuan Bajo and Houseboat

When you arrive from Bali in the early afternoon, you will be transported to a beachside resort just outside of the port town of Labuan Bajo, the gateway to the Komodo National Park. Prepare to be greeted with a warm Balinese welcome and take a moment to admire the traditional architecture as you check in to your hotel and get ready for an afternoon of relaxation. The day is then yours to enjoy, take a refreshing dip in the pool, a stroll along the beach or for those new to snorkelling, there will be an opportunity for a practice lesson with a tour leader.

In the evening, enjoy sunset drinks and a Balinese-style welcome dinner, a chance to indulge in some flavour rich traditional foods and mingle with other guests before your departure the next day.

Overnight at resort.

Day 2

Melo Village to Kalong Island

After breakfast, at about 9am all guests will depart the boat for a trip to the village of Melo. Here you will see the local ‘strongmen’ perform the ‘Caci,’ a ritual whip fight between two rivals, where each one, armed with a rattan shield and a whip, will try to hit each other whilst dancing to the rhythm of traditional acoustic instruments. The men of Western Flores are famous for this test of daring and skill, requiring lightning quick moves to dodge the infliction of a wound. The winner is loudly applauded and cheered by the village. The cultural group will also showcase other traditional dances and after enjoying these performances you will return to Labuan Bajo and board the impressive pinisi boat, home for the next 7 days.

Once settled, soak up the sun and mingle with other guests as the boat cruises out into the Komodo National Park where you will have your first snorkel among the corals.

In the early evening at cocktail hour you will anchor off Kalong Island to see thousands and thousands of fruit bats emerge from their mangrove homes and fill the sky as they head off to the mainland in search of food.

Overnight in on the boat. Full Board basis.

Day 3

Rinca Island to Siaba Island

This morning, prepare for another nature trek as you head to the ranger station of Loh Buaya on Rinca Island. Rinca is famous for its diverse wildlife, providing an opportunity to see wild Komodo dragons as well as monkeys, wild buffalos and deer. Prepare to be blown away by the views from the top of the hills, a picture perfect moment.

Later that day, the boat will head to Siaba Island, a favourite hangout of sea turtles. Here you will have the change to swim and snorkel with these gentle reptiles as they cruise along the shallow water of the reef.

Overnight on the boat. Full Board basis.

Day 4

Gili Banta to Sangean Island

Spend the morning on Gili Banta, a deserted island with a beautiful white sand beach. Explore the magnificent coral gardens, hike to the crest of the surrounding hills for a view of the surrounding islands, swim, paddle, kayak and play.

Cruise across the sea as the crew get the sails up and set course for Sangean Island, where local villagers are in the process of building a fifty-plus metre, traditional wooden pinisi boat, with the same pedigree and history of SeaTrek’s very own ships. Walking around this small village, get a feel for their simple way of life, chat with the locals and maybe buy some handmade textiles as a momento.

Snorkel on a vibrant coral reef just off the shore filled with fish and marine creatures from all shades of the colour spectrum, including a meadow of hundreds of glass eels.

Overnight on the boat. Full Board basis

Day 5

Satonda Island to Moyo Island

Wake up off Satonda Island, a strange and mystical volcanic island with a sunken crater lake in its centre. This lake was filled with saltwater from the nearby Mt Tambora when it erupted in 1815 (one of the worst volcanic eruptions in history). This location is considered sacred by the local people of Satonda, calling the trees upon this land ‘wishing trees’. Take a walk to the lip of the caldera to view the mysterious lake and make a wish by tying a small rock to one of the trees there

From Satonda you will cruise to the island of Moyo where the boat will dock at the village of Labuan Aji on the island of Moyo. Afternoon activities will include a wander through the village and in to the jungle, where you will visit the magnificent Diwu Mba’I waterfall. For the adventurous, jump upon the rope swing and plunge into the deep clear river pool below, or if not so daring, simply bathe in the natural swimming pool and absorb the beautiful nature around you.

Later that day, you will return to the boat where there will be more time for snorkelling on the reef or other water activities. In the evening, enjoy dinner and relax under the stars as the voyage continues.

Overnight on the boat. Full Board basis.

Day 6

Saleh Bay

Wake up early in Saleh Bay, where you will hopefully have the chance to swim with a group of whale sharks which like to congregate off fishing platforms, where local fishermen catch small baitfish and keep them suspended in nets, which attract the sharks.

Spend the afternoon on a nearby beach where we will snorkel, paddle, kayak and explore our jungle surroundings.

Overnight on the boat. Full Board basis.

Day 7

Bungin Island to Kenawa Island

This morning, the boat will be anchored off Bungin Island in West Sumbawa, which is home to a group of Bajau ‘Sea Gypsies’, well known for residing in stilt houses above the water and living entirely off the sea. Being the second largest Bajau settlement in Indonesia, this will provide an incredibly unique and rare opportunity to experience a part of Indonesian culture and seafaring tradition.

After lunch on the boat, the journey will continue 10 miles further east to the beautiful white sands of Kenawa Island in West Sumbawa where you can head out on to the water for fun activities such as snorkelling and paddle boarding. Alternatively, take a leisurely swim and explore the island’s beaches, grasslands and corals.

That evening celebrate your final night at a beach party with the crew. The perfect end of voyage celebration.

Overnight on the boat. Full Board basis.

Day 8

Departure to Bali

Wake up to humbling views of Mt Agung, an active volcano, which has been named Bali’s mother mountain. After some breakfast, there will be time for a final snorkel and swim before the boat lifts its anchor and heads south along the coast to the final destination of Amuk Bay. Here you can say your farewells to the crew and then hop on a transfer back to Bali which will take approximately 90 minutes.
