The ultimate guide to value for money travel

Clive Wedderburn July 8, 2016

Keeping an eye on our deals page will enhance your holiday experience with savings on multi centres and stopovers. So that got us thinking; what other ways can you get great value from your holiday abroad. Here are some top tips for amazing savings abroad.

1. Best all round value – South Africa

The UK enjoys a favourable exchange rate with the South African Rand so exciting holidays to explore the Cape winelands, drive the Garden Route and experience amazing safaris represent very good value for money.

Study our multi centre pages for stopover savings, however, and you could get a city-break absolutely for free – allowing you to combine, say, Cape Town recently voted ‘the best city in the world’ with a beach break in exotic Zanzibar for luxury amid powdery white sands. Suddenly your holiday becomes an affordable African adventure.

2. Best for local spending – Thailand

Thailand has always been a great-value holiday destination for British travellers, and while the exchange rate isn’t as strong as it has been in recent times, there are some exceptional deals on offer right now with value added extras such as free nights and local spending is still great value.

Great value holidays can also mean that priceless experiences are included in your room rate. At the Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villas in Khao Lak they offer insights into the aromatic world of Thai cuisine with free cookery classes conducted by the executive chef, demonstrating spice expertise and cultural cooking methods so that you can learn to cook like the locals.

Opt for the great value all inclusive package and book for a minimum of five nights. Then add in a free stopover in Bangkok for the perfect Thailand city-beach experience.

3. Best for all inclusive – Mauritius

You wouldn’t think so but Mauritius offers serious value for money. Not only is it a gorgeous island that benefits from direct flights from UK airports, but Attitude Hotels have many authentic experiences built into the price of the rooms. Not only do you have access to pedal boats, windsurfing, water-skiing, the tennis and volleyball courts included in the all inclusive package, you also get an insight into Mauritian culture.

There are traditional Creole street food experiences and When the sun eventually sets the activities continue with Mauritian sega shows, live bands and pool parties into the night – offering the perfect introduction to Mauritius in one neat package.

4. Luxury in the Maldives

You can also get value for money in some of the world’s most stylish resorts - the Platinum Plus package at the Atmosphere Kanifushi is the epitome of affordable luxury.

The generous all-inclusive deal means that from the moment your seaplane arrives at the jetty, your wallet instantly takes a well-earned break, leaving you to experience classic Maldivian vistas, exceptional dining, amazing underwater experiences including both snorkelling and diving, while the minibar in your luxury beach villa is refreshed twice a day.

5. Well-being in Vietnam

If it’s relaxation and well-being you desire then the Fusion Maia Da Nang in fascinating Vietnam is a stylish luxury hotel that offers spa treatments included in the price of the room. Their ‘Natural Living Programme’ has seven practises, that’s one for each day, plus yoga on the beach. The Fusion Spa has 16 treatment rooms with a steam sauna and an outdoor pool with its own waterfall.

The Fusion Maia Da Nang is a retreat like no other, a world class resort set on a beautiful beach – but with Spa treatments included on the room tariff, this well-being paradise makes perfect economic sense.

6. Credit in the Caribbean

Stunning Caribbean resorts, The Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, The Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort Cancun and The Cozumel Palace Mexico are top destinations to soak up some sunshine, charm and culture.

They also offer resort credit up to $2,500 on activities including excursions to ancient ruins, spa treatments and romantic dinners, plus upgraded drinks and golf packages.
