Six Fitness Destinations with a Difference

Hayes and Jarvis Blog Team June 9, 2014

For fitness freaks or those wanting a slightly more active break, plan your next holiday around the different sports and activities on offer. Swap the sandy beaches for rock climbing, and sun loungers for cycling on a fitness inspired multi centre holiday around the world to create an unforgettable journey of a lifetime.

Krabi, Thailand

The dramatic over hanging rocks and cliffs along the coast of Krabi make this Thai resort a popular location for rock climbers seeking a new challenge. With adrenaline junkies from around the world flocking to coastal retreats each year it has become a well known test for those wanting to push their endurance in reward for breathtaking views.
Don the snorkelling mask or scuba diving kit in the Maldives for an underwater exploration. Take a traditional dhoni boat out to the natural, uninterrupted reefs and witness the vibrant coral and colourful tropical fish in abundance. With over 2,000 species of fish, the marine wildlife here ranges from peaceful manta rays and reef sharks to tuna and sea turtles. The green turtle, hawksbill and leatherback can all be seen on these Indian Ocean islands, so keep your eyes open!
Surf the San Diego waves for the ultimate USA sporting experience. With golden sandy beaches fringed with palm trees, the picturesque resort is bustling with people wanting to test their skills out on the water. Attracting anyone from beginners to experts, those who have never stepped foot on a surf board can learn the basics at one of the many schools nearby, polish their pre-existing moves or simply show off. So no excuses - go grab a board and jump into the deep end.
Head to the untamed natural beauty of Borneo for breathtaking landscapes, untouched beaches and ancient rainforests rich in wonderful wildlife. Enjoy the terrain from a new height and take to the saddle with a local guide for a horse riding trek through the luscious jungle landscape or along the wide expanse of sandy beaches. Keep a look out for orang-utans and the proboscis monkey, before galloping along the sands as the sun sets for a magical experience.
Explore the stunning scenery of Vietnam on two wheels. Hire a bicycle and pass through rice paddy fields, sleepy villages and fishing towns before stopping off at various hidden temples, tombs and palaces at your own pace. Pedestrianised Hoi An is closed to cars, so exploring the quaint streets and alleyways is the perfect way to enjoy carefree travel, and means you can escape the beaten tracks.
Embark on a canoe safari in Botswana to enjoy a bit of animal spotting whilst keeping active. Grab a paddle and join your guide on the gentle water paths through the reeds, spotting elephants on the water’s edge, hippos basking in the sun and a vast range of exotic birds.
If you like the idea of combining several of these destinations into one adventurous trip, then look at planning a multi centre holiday or a twin centre holiday where you can try out different sports and exciting new activities before sitting back on the beach and enjoying some well earned R&R.
