See the Copa America in the USA

Discover the 2016 Copa America and kick off your exploration of some of the most thrilling destinations in the USA.

1. Orlando, Florida

Top match: The opening game - USA versus Colombia - 3 June

Venue: Camping World Stadium

There are plenty of reasons to visit Orlando besides the Copa America – notably Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, SeaWorld® Wet ’n Wild®, Orlando and Discovery Cove, plus LEGOLAND® Florida and Epcot. Yet if that isn’t enough Florida, the Sunshine State, contains some of the best beaches in the USA including Clearwater and St Pete plus colourful cities such as Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.

2. Seattle, Washington 

Top Match: Haiti versus Peru – 4 June

Venue: CenturyLink Field

Seattle in Washington state on the north-west coast of the USA is one of the unsung heroes of this amazing country and yet is surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery to be found anywhere in the USA. Called the Emerald City because of the abundance of green parks, lakes and cycle paths and the proximity to the Cascade Mountains - Seattle is as famous for its coffee culture as it is for its grunge music scene, having given rise to such greats as Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

3. Glendale, Arizona

Top match: Uruguay versus Mexico - 5 June  

Venue: University of Phoenix Stadium

Home to the Grand Canyon, the scenery in Arizona is taken straight from your favourite western movie. Monument Valley with its red rock buttes and prickly saguaro cacti plants will leave you hankering to hit the trail by road, bike or even on horseback. Explore the legendary Wild West town of Tombstone for stories of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Uruguay versus Mexico takes place in the state capital, Phoenix, but don’t forget to take in Canyon de Chelly National Monument for Navajo culture too.

4. Pasadena, California  

Top Match: Paraguay versus Colombia - 7 June 

Venue: Rose Bowl

Use Pasadena in Los Angeles as a base to explore the glamorous City of Angels. Drive along Sunset Boulevard, visit the Griffith Observatory or legendary neighbourhoods such as Beverley Hills and Bel Air or go shopping along historic Rodeo Drive with its designer stores. Take in Universal Studios and visit the beach at stunning Santa Monica; the last stop on Route 66.

5. Chicago, Illinois   

Venue: Soldier Field

Top Match: Costa Rica versus USA - 7 June

Top Match: Paraguay versus Colombia - 7 June

 Venue: Rose Bowl

Explore the Windy City from the Navy Pier on the shores of the Great Lake Michigan to the astounding views experienced from the Skydeck of the Willis Tower. Discover Chicago’s rich tradition of Blues music or take a cultural tour of the city including the John Hancock Center on an Architectural Cruise along the Chicago River.  And of course then there’s Soldier Field, one of the most iconic stadiums in the USA to watch the host nation play Costa Rica.

6. Foxborough, Massachusetts

Top Match: Peru versus Brazil - 12 June

Venue: Gillette Stadium

Massachusetts in bucolic New England is not only the epicentre of the American Revolution, it’s also a great place to begin your USA sports tour. Discover the Boston’s landmarks before embarking on a road trip that includes the scenic beauty of Cape Cod with its clapboard houses and romantic isles before heading over to Foxborough to watch Peru do battle with Brazil.

7. East Rutherford, New Jersey 

Top Match: Haiti versus Ecuador - 12 June

Venue: MetLife Stadium

There are many reasons to visit the Garden State. This is the home of historic Princeton University, while the Morristown National Historic Park and George Washington’s Revolutionary headquarters will tempt history buffs. New Jersey is also within easy travelling distance to New York and Boston – an added bonus on route to watch Haiti play Ecuador at the MetLife Stadium.

8. Houston, Texas

Top match: Venezuela versus Mexico - 13 June

Venue: NRG Stadium

Houston is world-renowned for oil barons and NASA astronauts. Experience the rush of a rocket launch at the Feel of Space exhibit at the Lyndon B Johnson Space Center. Houston enjoys a stylish outdoor dining scene while shopaholics should make a bee-line for the Galleria, Houston’s largest shopping mall. Furthermore, the African art at the Museum of Fine Arts is perfect for culture vultures. Or simply stick to sports and combine Venezuela versus Mexico with the Houston Oilers and the Houston Astros for American football, baseball and soccer action.

9. Santa Clara, California

Haight-Ashbury

Top Match: Jamaica versus Uruguay - 13 June

Venue: Levi's Stadium

Home to the San Francisco 49ers and the host of the 2016 Superbowl - the Copa America tournment will witness a fascinating battle between the ‘Reggae Boys’ of Jamaica and the Luis Suarez’s Uruguay team. Situated in the bay area of San Francisco, this is bound to be a great atmosphere; an occaision to tempt you from the signature neighbourhoods of Russian Hill, Haight-Ashbury and trendy Nob Hill.

10. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Top Match: Panama versus Chile - 14 June

Venue: Lincoln Financial Field

Discover the City of Brotherly Love, nestled between the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers. Philly as it’s also known is home to many educational institutions. Explore the Museum of Modern Art and the Academy of Natural Sciences. Visit Fairmont Park the world’s largest city park, a haven for joggers and cyclists among rolling hills and gorges where you’ll also find over 200 works of art scattered throughout the woodlands and meadows.
