Meet some of our experts

Alice Norman

Alice, South America Specialist

After graduating with a degree in Geography, Alice found her love for travel after a six-month backpacking trip, where she travelled over 6,000 kilometres from South to Central America. Some of her favourite travel memories include trekking amongst the granite peaks of Torres del Paine National Park, a white-knuckle ride cycling Death Road in Bolivia and watching a Guatemalan volcano erupt from afar. Most recently, Alice has trekked 4,130 meter up to Annapurna Base Camp, slept out under the stars in Namibia, and witnessed the wildebeest migration in Tanzania’s flagship park, The Serengeti. Alice joined Hayes & Jarvis after working in the Events Industry and after a history in Adventure Travel as well.

Favourite food from a destination you love?
A very tough decision but nothing beats Peruvian Ceviche while sat in a cliff top restaurant in Lima looking out over the Pacific Ocean, or a Japanese Raman sat in a tiny restaurant at the counter watching the chefs prepare the dishes.

Your favourite wildlife encounter?
Seeing the wildebeest migration in Kenya and Tanzania, and driving underneath a sleeping tree climbing lion.

Favourite culture trip?
Attending my friends wedding in Japan at a Shinto Temple, experiencing a different culture’s ceremony was an honor and so interesting to witness the ancient traditions.

I’ll always remember when…
One of my favourite and humbling moments was cycling around vineyards in Mendoza, an area in Argentina’s wine country. I witnessed the diversity and magic of vineyards and endless rows of ripe, succulent grapes, feeling like we were the only ones there- it was just so peaceful. The pairing of Argentinian wine with a world-class cuisine allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the culture, I loved sampling grilled provolone and steaks grilled over coals.

Jas, Indian Ocean Destination Specialist

Where have you travelled to?
India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

Favourite destination you’ve visited?
The Seychelles. Feeling like you have your own private island is something else!

Most interesting person you’ve met whilst travelling?
Mr Mason, the owner of Denis Private Island. He was a very humble and down to earth man, he does anything to help the locals and only employs Seychellois people.

Must pack item?
Good mosquito spray.

Where is next on your travel wish list?
Canada, it’s completely different to anywhere I’ve visited before.

Mel, Caribbean Destination Specialist

Where have you travelled to?
The Dominican Republic, Mexico, Aruba, Jamaica and Antigua.

Favourite destination you’ve visited?
Antigua. Such a small island but so much going on whether you want to kick back and relax or explore, it ticks the boxes for all ages.

Most interesting person you’ve met whilst travelling?
Rebecca Adlington was at our hotel in Antigua, I didn’t manage to speak to her as we didn’t want to disturb her!

Where is next on your travel wish list?
Kuala Lumpur and Borneo in Malaysia, the complete other side of the world for something different.

Charlotte, USA Destination Specialist

Where have you travelled to?
I have been to 23 states in America, including five national parks and numerous national monuments.

Favourite destination you’ve visited?
For a city break I would have to go with Boston, but in terms of America as a whole it would be Yellowstone and nearby Cody. I visited a rodeo and got the chance to sit on a bull.

Must pack item?
A portable battery charger so you don’t miss out on any unforgettable moments when you’re out and about.

Where is next on your travel wish list?
My next booked holiday is a self-drive around Atlanta, New Orleans and Memphis. However at the top of my travel list would have to be Alaska. Luckily we have just launched new amazing Alaskan tours so this may be happening sooner than I had planned!

Chris, Thailand Destination Specialist

Where have you travelled to?
I’ve travelled all over Thailand mainly staying in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.

Favourite destination you’ve visited?
Chiang Mai. We went on a jungle trek where we stayed in a local village for two nights. It was amazing to experience something so different.

Most interesting person you’ve met whilst travelling?
Our guide for the jungle trek, Mario. He was so enthusiastic and kept disappearing up trees for weird and wonderful fruit for us to try.

Must pack item?
Mosquito spray, there’s nothing worse than getting bitten!

Where is next on your travel wish list?
I think South America would be really adventurous and completely different to everywhere else I’ve been.
